Thank you! I would just wait until I receive my 10 GC lol.. I am not sure if the staff was not fully updated about above, but she mentioned that she could not entered the information from my extension letter, she needs an updated physical GC lol, she tried to enter the 2 years extension but the system won't allowed her lol.. Ohh, well.. I also missed to request update the SSN when I submitted I-751, I thought I have enough time to renew  before its expired and provided the extension letter.. I am not planning to change employment soon, if required I will just provide the expired GC, extension letter and driver license..

@mepck in this economy it may not be always you who decides when to change jobs. The life doesn't always go according to the plans we have. Now imagine at your new place the HR doesn't know how to enter extension letter details in the system, doesn't know what it is or thinks that you can only work until letter expires. IMHO better to deal with SSA now, since you'll have to do it anyways. The choice is always yours of course.

I'm sorry your employer doesn't understand the importance and benefits of their empoyee having an unrestricted SSN card.

Thank you! I went to SSA earlier before my GC expired along with the 24 extension letter and she was not able to lift the restriction and asked me to come back after I receive my 10 year GC

I think the easiest way to lift the conditions is to actually do it at the time that you submitted the I-485 according to this webpage. This wasn't necessary for my situation, but has anyone done this?

Yeah.. I wish I knew that earlier. I requested replacement of the card when submitted I-485, but it was just updated my last name, the restriction was not removed..

Not quite right. The new AOS form has an option now to request a SSN but that is for somebody who doesn't have a number at that moment and you'll only get it after your Greencard was approved not when you file. It's in the article. 

 

One can get the text removed as soon as they have a Greencard. No matter if it's valid for 2 or 10 years. Not all SSA workers know all of their stuff. Always ask for a supervisor if you feel like they give you wrong information

The restriction can only get removed when you have a Greencard not when you apply for one.

@Letspaintcookies I read the article, it says:

 

"If you complete the section on the application to request an SSN card, then USCIS will send us the data we need to issue your original SSN or SSN replacement card. If you apply for an SSN card using Form I-485, you do not have to contact a Social Security office to apply for an SSN card. If USCIS approves your application for LPR status - Your Lawful Permanent Resident Card or "USCIS I-551" or "green card", we will mail your SSN card or replacement card to the address listed on your I-485 application."

 

So it seems you can get a replacement card with restrictions removed this way.

Yea that was how I read it as well. Also I looked at the form and there is a field to enter your existing SSN if you have one as well as a box to check that says "Do you want the SSA to issue you a Social Security card?". It would seem that if you both entered the SSN and checked the box that they would send an amended card without the restrictions once they received the authorization to do so. Similar to how the DS-260 worked for those of us with a CR-1 -- you fill out the info at the time you submit the form and they don't send it until the form has been properly processed and you are eligible.

Hi All, 

 

So I sent out two inquiries almost 3 weeks ago. 

Thankfully the response was given to both of them, one was my I-797 was lost in the mail and they sent out another one. 

 

Second, I read about the Biometrics being used and put in an inquiry for that as well, I received an update yesterday 11-17 that:

 

My received date 9-26-22 and my service center is Nebraska. 

 

So, I would send out the inquiries but it also depends on how helpful the information specialists are as well. This was my second set of inquiries after the first ones didn't yield any result.

Received date was 9/1/2022 (NOA: 9/6/2022).

Just put in an inquiry about our biometrics appointment.  Hopefully that gets them moving.

Sarge... Could you please send me the link to make the inquiry. And what exactly should I state or input there? Is it a drop down, pick your question kind of inquiry page? I just would really like to see some progress on our i-751. 🙏
