no,  its not

but look into cost of medical insurance for someone with a past history of cancer/  its going to be expensive

and when my late husband  had cancer, the treatments are expensive

i believe the person looses Canadian health care benefits when they move here

I do not see why she could not buy Insurance and that is really a Money/State issue and I could envisage circumstances where she could be better off in the US.

Not an issue for the visa.

Thank you. Sounds scary. Prob not a bright idea to petition looking at the threads in VJ. :( If it would cost me $30,000 a year just for insurance.  This is so sad.

Yes the cost of health coverage for parents who are not working or eligible for Medicare is a big issue. Some states have an expanded medicaid that LPR can access but others do not. There are a couple of good threads that you can read through .. also investigate your states Medicaid eligibility

Where did you get that premium from?

But they are not required to cover every cost associated with covered conditions. And they certainly don’t for cancer. People go bankrupt paying for care here. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/24/cancer-puts-many-patients-into-bankruptcy-advisors-are-trying-to-help.html

Correct .. but a specific  policy will have the same restrictions/ treatment limits for a certain medical condition,   whether it is preexisting or new

Not much comfort when you’re going bankrupt though. I never understand why people with conditions like that would move from a universal healthcare system to the US under the current healthcare system, especially when even these current benefits keep getting attacked by certain politicians. Hopefully OP’s parent stays in remission and none of this affects them.
