I don't think countries are denying entry to their own citizens.

I know of atleast two countries where citizens have been unable to return since the pandemic began - Australia and NZ

You might be able to get better guidance from your closest NZ diplomatic mission (Consulate or Embassy) in the US.

Otherwise, I strongly suggest leaving the US before the 90 days, so that you can visit again in the future.  Best of luck.

I agree, it would be a shame to incur an future immigration issue.  Reading the onerous requirements even NZ citizens face is quite sad all in the name of the myth of zero Covid.

To the OP, contact the NZ consulate and explain your situation, maybe they have arrangements or are able to schedule an emergency managed isolation room.

Good Luck!

I don't think that is true, now, for Australia.

@SteveInBostonI130 Hi Steve,

can you explain this to me??

Follow @Lemonslice suggestion of contacting the NZ consulate here in the US.

Explain your situation to be able to book the accomodations and return to NZ before your I-94 expires.

That is, if your situation is truly irreconcilable.  It must be difficult to have moved here only to have to move back, in addition to dealing with a failing or failed relationship.

Yeah, was not impossible, but very difficult, making it practically impossible for most. Australians had to apply with reasons to get a seat on a repatriation flight. There were very few, and even citizens who had parents in Australia with serious illnesses were unable to obtain this permission.

As of Nov 1 2021, the borders opened up.

The mandatory quarantine hotels were not unique to Australia; many countries including Canada and Singapore had them.

Hi,

I don't know your situation but many of us here are going through or have gone through the immigration process ourself or with our loved one. We have all ran into relationship issues at some point and for many of us couples we have dealt with homesickness, relying on 1 income, not being able to drive, blended families, etc. If you have not already done so I would highly encourage you to inquire about some couples counseling or pre-marriage classes. You can find licensed marriage counselors online or if you are of a particular faith through your church. It seems a waste to get this far in the process and just return home. If nothing else, maybe the counseling could help provide a cordial separation and a sense of knowing you both tried your best but it just didn't work out. In the meantime look up some free videos on youtube by Dr. John Gottman and watch them together. He founded many of the studies that modern day relationship counseling and books are based on. I hope everything turns out well for the both of you.

Add Philippines.  You can't return unless you endure a long quarantine at your own expense.  (2 weeks or more)

I think NZ has a registry system for booking quarantine accomodations in advance.  No one, even NZ citizens, can travel back without that booking confirmation.  Apparently it's a long waiting list.

There is a long wait. In fact there are no spots in MIQ at the moment. You cannot book a stay for the mandatory length of time at all.

The borders are closed, have been since March 2020, except for a brief time or two when trans Tasman travel was allowed, between NZ and AU . They did open MIQ for booking for a time, but the latest release of rooms was canceled. Kiwis are stranded all over unable to get back home. People with ill children, parents funerals, the lot.

https://www.miq.govt.nz/about/news/20-january-room-release-postponed/

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

The Philippines is open to all PH citizens and their immediate relatives.  There's a choice of around 400 quarantine hotels, from cheap to super swanky.  If there's anyone who can't afford to stay at the cheapest quarantine hotel, then they probably can't afford the flight to the Philippines in the first place.  It's not at all like the situation with AU or NZ where people are not allowed to return no matter how much money they have.

Understood. Good point.

As to Australia, unless you are an athlete competing in an event, (tennis, F1 racing) then you are fine to get in.

I have a customer there (a major city government). I’m doing remote work because even they can’t get me in.
