Right now the goal is to get him home asap, then rebook for 14 days out.

That seems to be a reasonable plan, considering......good luck.  Have you looked at what route he will take on his next trip to the US?

Ouch, I assumed there were several flights.

For future reference I think this is a good learning opportunity for everyone. Pandemic or not, I think trying to find a DIRECT flight to America is the best course of action. Eliminating extra bureaucracy and border officers is worth the additional money IMO. It isn't worth your partner getting stuck in a foreign country to save a few hundred dollars. Just get them on U.S soil as quickly as possible.

I think direct is always preferable for a number of reasons, including potential plane delays - especially at this time of year, when weather has the potential to be problematic if it leads to a missed connection. We once met a family en route from SA to the US who had been stuck in Amsterdam for three days by that stage trying to get another flight , admittedly right now getting space on another flight is not the problem it usually is in high season, but the lesson remains.

I agree with this wholeheartedly after going through this. Haven't saved any money now, but have acquired heartache, stress, cold sore and lost time.

He arrived in Casablanca, lost suitcase and held by police for questioning for about an hour.

To be clear, can I book a ticket for him to leave on the 29th or does it need to be the 30th?

I would wait a full 14 days- you don’t want to risk it.

Country: Morocco

NOA1- March 27th

Agreed, 100%.

What could be a "safe" transit airport today could be subject to a travel ban next week. Or the government of that third country can suddenly decide to close its borders / impose quarantine or test requirements with strict validity requirements.

Hopefully the OP's next attempt will be more successful and they are reunited soon.

nonstop. The term is nonstop flight.

Direct flights as they relate to America are not actually direct. They are multi segment flights with a stop: one flight number, at least one stop, and often a change of plane.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_flight

Do not book direct flights. Book nonstop flights.

Parents of USC children are already exempt: "any alien who is the parent or legal guardian of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident is unmarried and under the age of 21"

NIE is a separate exception: "any alien whose entry would be in the national interest, as determined by the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or their designees"

Wasn’t there a military fiancé recently that was approved for an NIE, or did I dream it?

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

@Hannah&Nick: Could you provide an update?
