They only do interviews one day a week? That's insane to me, no wonder there was such a long wait! Hopefully they'll do it more often than that since it's the only visa they're processing right now (I think)

Yes! When I had access to book interviews, the only options were on every Wednesday of that month, and you can only look one month ahead, no further than that. I also remember there was only 5 or so time slots!

It could be almost a year before they finish those. It says on their post that there will be a significant backlog. 😶

Even before Covid, people interviewing through Montreal were looking at a 9 month backlog.

Greg Siskind has posted details on their timeframe for resuming K1 processing.

Just to be clear, he is a private practice attorney, and not affiliated with the DOS or US consulates.

It appears his info is coming from the government itself, based on diplomatic cables they acquired for litigation against the visa bans executive order.

Their law firm actually posted the aforementioned documents to the public. https://www.visalaw.com/siskinds-notes-visa-ban-litigation-administrative-record/

There's a Dropbox link and there's some notes on the page. There's quite a few definitive answers to questions members have had here, such as: Consulates are being encouraged to re-validate I-129F even if they're past expiry, using guidance under 9 FAM 502.7-3(B)(d), none of the executive orders affect K1s because they are non-immigrant visas (they emphasize this repeatedly).

Here's a flowchart they had describing how IV rescheduling is supposed to work through their phases: https://i.imgur.com/FFfsDXZ.png

Thanks for posting this. I saw a few times that the claim was K-1s were the "LOWEST" priority. That's not technically wrong as it's in the last phase, but it implied it was lower than most others. The flow chart indicates that K-1s will resume under Phase 3, along with most other visas.

The only real "priority" cases prior to Phase 3 are IR-1/CR-1 and emergency cases.

Once Phase 3 is hit, they are prioritizing cases already scheduled that got canceled, a very limited set of cases (adoptions, humanitarian, etc.), then spouses and fiance/fiancee cases, then all others. So K-1 is not the lowest there either.

So where are we in relation to phase 3 (in terms of how many months until we hit phase 3/what phase we're in)?

The phases are supposedly determined by each embassy's local conditions (of the virus) at the time.

So basically phase 3 comes whenever the country gets to NZ-levels of covid exposure then (I'm probably exaggerating).
I wish there was something on each embassy's website which says "We're currently in phase two of re-opening. Given current local progress, we expect phase three will start in x weeks time."

As we've seen here in the US, they could keep jumping around phases depending on if covid comes back harder or goes away more. They say it'll hit harder in flu season so there's a chance they'll go back to phase 1 or close again. Also I'm sure they'll be pretty slow on the backlogs because I remember back in March/April they sent a bunch of people back to the US and I'm not sure when theyre returning them to the embassy. I haven't heard any word on that yet.

I definitely sympathize with everyone as we are going through the same wait. It’s so scary and uncertain. Any shred of good news helps. Fingers crossed
