Does having a baby make the process easier?

My wife is Russian. I am American. We are set to have a child in a couple of months who would be a dual citizen. Does having a child change the process at all? Making it easier or more difficult for my wife? I am pretty sure it doesn't, but I definitely want to check to be completely sure.

It doesn't make it any easier or faster.  Get the CRBA as soon as you can.

Hmm any idea how that process would work since Saint Petersburg no long has a consulate and Moscow is no longer serving Americans?

CRBA is processed in the American Citizen Services section. CRBA isn't being processed right at the moment but hopefully by the time your baby is born.  I'd recommend doing it as soon as it is reasonable. Otherwise do it with an appointment around the interview time.  Include proof that you were at the same place and time as your wife.

A baby never makes anything easier.

 

Immigration-wise, it won't impact the mother's case other than telling them (and having a copy of the child's BC in case they want to see it) so they can update their records. And the child will need a US passport, so go through the CRBA process (hopefully it's back in service by then).

No, it makes things more complicated...does a child ever make things easier in life ?!

Regarding immigration you will need to obtain the child’s CRBA and file for a passport, depending how far away she is from an embassy you’d have to travel with a newborn, you have another member of the household you need to support, depending where you are in paperwork you may have to change some things and if you ever divorce taking the kid out of the country without permission results in international kidnapping charges, not to mention if your wife is in an abusive situation once she arrives she can’t just take the kid and leave you..and shed practically be stuck in the US if she wants her kid.

She'll have to look into it, but I'm pretty sure the baby will also need a Russian passport.

Where are you at in your process? 

 

In me and my husband's case we have a child, but I am the USC and gave birth in the US, so we don't have to deal with anything extra for our process.  

 

When a child is born abroad you have some extra steps because you have to deal with CRBA and getting the child a passport (and I do believe that in the case of Russia, dual citizens are required to enter/leave Russia on their Russian passports, which means you would have to get two passports right off the bat just to get your child out of Russia).  You'll probably have to wait until the embassy fully reopens to do all that.

The US embassy isn't providing services to US citizens?  What are they doing then?

It seems Moscow's embassy is only offering "emergency passports for immediate return to the United States" at this point 🤷‍♀️

I have two babies with my USC husband. Our first was born in 2017 in my home country while waiting for my K1 visa, and our second was born here in the US in December. I’m still waiting on my green card interview. This has in no way, shape or form made the process easier. If you think a baby is going to make anything easier then buckle up because they’re really not going to make anything easier, I assure you. Congratulations.

Our AOS interview (from a b2 visa) was about 3 minutes long - we were approved on the spot after we gave the officer our baby's birth certificate. Then we talked about kids for a few minutes (the officer had several kids with another on the way) and we were out in probably 6-7 minutes tops. So yeah, having a baby probably made the interview a little easier, but nothing else about the process changed - we still had to wait a long time for our interview, go through all the same steps, etc.

If having a baby made it easier many more people would be having babies before they immigrate. And what about those people who can’t have children? Should their process be made even harder because of that? 
 

In short. USCIS is not interested in your life choices.
