Processing times just changed to 3 years!!?

Just a few days ago when I would check the processing times for a I130 in Potomac it would show 9 to 12 months or so, I just checked today and it shows 32.5 Months to 42 Months!! What happened? why the sudden change?

It's possible that they recently found they still had cases THAT OLD, and decided to finally work on them. 

When it comes to processing times, they use the oldest case they're working on to calculate. It does not mean every case will take that long.

It may not make sense to you but how I interpret it is if they look at the cases they completed 2 months ago (we know they were working with a skeleton shift) and they multiple it by the total number of cases they currently have it would take 32.5-42 months if they continued at the rate they were processing cases 2 months ago... which would lead me to believe whenever they have full staff working again these processing times would drastically decrease.

I really wouldn't use any USCIS processing time as a guide until things get back to a "normal" and after the summer break / layoffs / furloughs USCIS may be taking.

Most likely they hit a few really old cases and the automatic system adjusted it to that.

Or they are taking into account having to furlough a decent chunk of their staff.

More likely it's #1...they typically don't publish data on based on things still up in the air.

The same has happened to N-400 processing times. All offices, all over the country, are now showing 12.5 - 36 months for processing. I’m not reading too much into it for now.

I will however email my congressman and encourage him to urge them to get the funding to USCIS and work on their terrible inefficiency.

I would, but my box of meaningless form letters from people who don't care about me is already full so I don't have room for any more.

On March 1, USCIS began transferring certain cases to the Potomac Service Center (PSC) from other service centers to balance workloads. The affected casework includes Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, filed by F-1 and M-1 students seeking Optional Practical Training (OPT) and J-1 dependents.

 

These cases take longer and affects their timeline

Issue with this is now USCIS governs itself with our fees (bad as it is)  do you want the federal government provide the budget and take over?

it's a no win situation from what i see

and seems anytime an organization wants fee increases (like USCIS has asked for),  they come up with scare tactics asking for a huge amount (2 or 3 times what they want) and we,  the people,  give them what they really want ( in this case the new increase in fees) and its a ploy to manage the system
