Some counties in AZ are still open. Maricopa will do marriage licenses by appointment and Pima is open. Mohave might be closest and worth calling.

Hi all, not sure if I am posting in the correct place but I just arrived in the US on Sunday with a K1 visa and me and my fiance were planning on getting our marriage license this week and have a courthouse wedding on the weekend but due to the Corona Virus Scare none of the Southern California/Vegas counties issue them until further notice. I am really worried as I my 90 days started ticking and I hoped to get this done ASAP after my arrival. I was wondering if someone else is in the same situation or have any advice on what we can do?

Thank you very much in advance.

We are in Northern California. No luck here so far. Going to call some more counties tomorrow but I think everyone in our position is SOL for the time being.

Huh?  Do you just make this stuff up?

Your response was a lot more polite than the one I refrained from posting.

I thought that was just plain rude and heartless (referred to the comment you replied to, not yours - I'm with you on this one!)

Fingers crossed that with the restrictions on who can go in, they are still going ahead with it. Keep us posted.

Welcome to the USA!  Wishing you many happy years here with your spouse to be.

I am in the same boat as many of you. Fiance arrived 1.5 weeks ago (Northern California) We scheduled to apply for a license but was told just a few days ago that the office was closed. We tried calling various counties all over California, but the response was the same (some said early April, some said we don’t know).

Hopefully, the offices will reopen sometime in April. However, given the current mandated “stay at home” orders and what not, we are planning for the worst, which is to apply for AOS after our 90 days are up. I have been told it is possible, but it does require more forms and probably fees. Good luck to all of you.

Under the TOS, nobody can advise you to overstay.

But I would just say that if it happens that there is no way to get married within those 90 days, there is the ability to AOS still. Yes, there's more forms and more fees if that happens.

So do whatever you can to avoid it (I'm doubtful things will be this level of shut down for 60+ days...), but don't panic either as there are paths still possible.

Right, overstay is something I want to avoid 100%. And I am trying to be hopeful that this shut down doesn’t last that long. I was considering trying to get married at other states, but we’re currently under the shelter in place order, which prohibits travel for non-essential reasons.

Thanks for the reassurance, though. We initially panicked for a few days, but came to the realization that currently, things are out of our control.

Over the next few weeks we will likely see more and more K1's in a similar position posting on here. It wouldn't surprise me if there is a pinned thread dedicated to this dilemma, given the awkward situation so keep watching the forum. It's no consolation to each individual or couple, but you are not alone and this is a great place for sharing information and experiences.

I hope that USCIS will give an extension to K1s in this situation, the same way tax season got an extension.
