You may be fine.

Others have been denied a K-1 for much less.

Either roll the dice and ride it out, or officially marry and start over. Nobody knows which way the CO will determine any individual's case.

Exactly. We were completely transparent and honest and our petition as everyone should be. I did have an immigration attorney help me who is Jordanian and understands the host of the country and our traditions. Any issues I may be able to go back to him later. Hoping for the best as I do understand USCIS here may see it differently than they would in the embassy.  Fingers are crossed.

Just note that there's 2 hurdles: the IO adjudicating the I-129F and the CO who issues or refuses the visa. Regardless of what happens (hopefully it's not an issue), don't get too confident if USCIS approves the petition. The issue is more often raised at the embassy/consulate stage.

Hi VJers,

I’ve been reading a few posts this evening and got a little nervous. As I am waiting for my NOA2, I’ve been reading that USCIS can see formal engagement photos as being too engaged or almost married. My fiancé and I got engaged in our Orthodox Church in Jordan. I sent a few photos with my petition and its on our FB. Of course I’m wearing a simple red dress.  Not white! I included a certificate from the priest who stamped it who blessed our rings, and he wrote the date, our names and that he commenced our engagement. Will this be a problem with USCIS? I’m so confused now! All we wanted was a beautiful engagement ceremony!

You shouldn’t send those kind of photos... so many couple got denied because the same sitution like yours... but good luck anyway

All joking aside, I do believe this puts you at increased risk of denial but it is not a death sentence by any means based on my own experience.

I had an engagement ceremony as well....monks, parents and traditional Cambodian outfits were involved. (Click on my profile and click my background pic if you want to see it). At the time I did not even think about K-1, I wasn't sure if I would stay in Cambodia or return to USA.

This was a concern for me as I prepared for the K-1 and researched, however, I also felt slight relief that we had it described as an engagement in the party decorations which appeared in some of the photos. I also included notarized letters from my parents confirming they attended our engagement in Cambodia.

At this point, all you can do is just prepare yourself for potential increased scrutiny. Note: It did not come up at all in our interview, not that the goings on of my case in Cambodia have significant relevance to what will happen with you.

Best of luck

Well today I reached out to an office in Jordan who helps many Jordanians with their B1, B2 and even K1 Visa and such...I got a hold of the agent who helps the beneficiaries specifically with K1's there and shared my story. Asked if we will have a problem. He chuckled and asked why I was worried? I explained to him USCIS may find the photos as "too married" and such. He said I had nothing to worry about and this is not the first they have seen of these kinds of engagements and he has helped plenty of couples prepare for their interviews in Jordan and they have had religious engagements as we did. He joked that USCIS knows our traditions more than we do. Either way hope he is right as he seemed very confident. So lets see....

Helping? Go back and read the thread!!! He was NOT HELPING.  I will not be accused of something  that didnt happen and dont appreciate his remark. I gave him an opportunity to clarify what he meant and have a right to defend myself so people LIKE ME who do come here for help, dont have to deal with guys like him making such remarks. Got it?

“Got it”?!   LOL aggressive much?   It seems like perhaps you missed that poster’s more serious and helpful post about his/her experience with a Cambodian engagement ceremony, in favor of going berserk here on your own thread.

My guess is this thread will soon be closed by the moderators, but if you stick around and look for more help, you would be wise to develop a thicker skin.
