Your 2018 W2 just is for  current. Your most current tax return doesn't meet guidelines. You have W2 do your 2018 taxes ASAP and get that tax form off to them soon as you press submit. You can mail it off by tomorrow.

IRS isn't accepting returns until January 29

YMMV

Well you can do Turbotax, Taxact and at least print off the completed return.

I wouldn't provide a return that had no proof of filing and acceptance by the IRS otherwise it could simply be made up

since the CO said cosponsor , they are not looking to accept 2018 income

they want to see cosponsor

your income went down considerably in 2017 (the needed income level for this interview and this is the concern at the embassy level/ they look for consistency

assests is a possibility / review what is needed in USCIS

if case is retruned to USA for review (takes about 6 months to be returned),  you will be notified and they may allow the 2018 tax transcripts which will be done by then or assests

OR

if no cosponsor,  refile and at next interview you will have 2018 tax returns  and current 2019 income (if near the same level)  will be accepted

it is not unusual to have to refile in African countries

If they will accept a 2018 return later then they would accept it now if she can get it done without having to endure a returned petition or a new filing

YMMV

I have no idea what to do and there is no person I can ask except automated systems 😥

We have been apart 2 years next month

So you were put in AP pending co-sponsor, not denied correct? Others I know who faced this with a lower 2017 income but a decent 2018 income have just decided to wait until they file 2018 taxes (within the next month!) Then submit that 2018 tax return

I agree it's likely due to your most recent tax return (2017) being the lowest of your returns provided, since it's so early in the year (not quite tax season yet, for 2018 income). If they are requesting a co-sponsor at this point, not 100% sure they would accept the 2018 return once completed, but definitely does not hurt to provide that, particularly since 2018 shows an upward trend more comparable to your prior tax years, which were greater than 2017. To be safe, I would still do what you can about obtaining a co-sponsor in any way. Doesn't have to be a family member or blood relative.

FYI - tax returns will be accepted beginning 1/24. I've already completed mine and am waiting to file, which the system stated can be filed no sooner than 1/24.

Håll ut, y'all.

Here is my breakdown.

They are looking for an acceptable affidavit

Based on the affidavit you provided, they based there decision on the 2017 tax evidence.  Based on this evidence the affidavit is insufficient and they requested you provide a cosponsor.

If you can provide an acceptable affidavit (either with a cosponsor or updated 2018 information) then it should be accepted

YMMV

There are 2 requirements, tax filing and current income, seems the Consulate has no issues with tax filing.

We posted the 2018 tax return 2 days ago and will present the copy of that at our interview.

They do not PROCESS your mail return but they do ACCEPT AND RECEIVE IT.

You can use your 2018 paper return copy AS OF NOW.

In 99% of the cases I would be right there with you.   In this case I may want the linchpin.  But that is just my opinion.

In my opinion this is an abuse of discretion. The earnings for the current year are higher than the threshold. The average of the immediate past three years are higher than the threshold. The average of the four years submitted are higher than the threshold, and they deny this?

Cosponsor for what?

This is the kind of decision that annoys me knowing very well that consular decisions cannot be appealed.

If they are married, I think they do have the right to appeal.
