this will only affect those who use public assistance such as welfare etc...which during the process of becoming a legal immigrant one of the assurances you agree to is that you WILL NOT be a public burden to the country. So essentially its just being enforced now.

It will affect more than just those. It says that if any of the family members (i.e. ME!) has used food stamps, children's medical etc etc then you will be unable (as a beneficiary) unable to obtain residence and citizenship.

This is horrendous. It is punishing all families who have ever relied on the state.

yes, because the government is figuring that if you yourself need assistance, how are you able to maintain someone else and not request the same for them? not saying that i agree with the petitioner falling in that as well because im sure everyone's needed some type of assistance at one point or another.

That's not what it says at all. Having ever used a public benefit you qualified for does not suddenly make you ineligible to be a sponsor.

And for the small minority of people this would effect, one can use a joint sponsor still for the public charge concern.

Anyway, this topic has been covered in multiple threads.

Yes it does state that even the petitioner cannot have used assistance. The poor , or ever-poor, are once again targeted.
