LionessDeon,

Thanks a lot for your reply and words. Means a lot to me. You are right about everything you've said. I have to remain calm and stay positive for me and my husband through this. I will do everything they asked for and requested as soon as possible.

This is more of the issue than anything else. One meeting over a year ago with a high fraud embassy.

FYI - Pakistan isn't a high fraud country and you cant just go to police and tell them to give you a Police clearance certificate, they have a process to verify your data from NADR ( National Database and Registration Authority ) I have a huge family and nobody had any problems with it. They have B2 visas for 5 years so No Pakistan is not considered as a "high fraud country."

He said the counselors were laughing at him as well and this made him feel so hurt from inside.

Whatever the outcome of this situation, the CO's shouldn't have been laughing or making fun of you and your husband.  That would be inappropriate behavior on their part.  Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and have their case treated professionally.  If this truly happened, you should probably make some sort of complaint.

You are welcome!  Just gotta keep a level head and give them what they need/want.  I know all about difficult visa journeys.  I wish you the best!

Happens more often than you think.  IOs aren't there to sweeten up your day.  They are there to do a job, especially when there are cases with red flags such as this.  It is the IOs job to weed out fraudlent visa seekers.  You can't always do that by being Mr. Nice Guy.  It's a test to get to the truth.  You can't take it personal.

Were you with your husband at his interview? How did they talk to You?

My fiance was ridiculed at his interview too and it was very hurtful to him as well. It's very unprofessional and judgemental. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I agree with others though that getting married in a first meeting us likely a bigger cause. It's not financially easy for any of us, we do what we have to do.

I agree that they don't have to be "Mr. Nice Guy", but they do need to be professional and treat people with respect.  They are representing America and are often the first point of interaction between foreigners and our government.  They absolutely should not be ridiculing people and laughing at them.  That wouldn't be tolerated in my government run office and it shouldn't be happening in the State Department.

This is homeland security. This is protecting US citizens from fraudulent, scamming, possibly worse.  I'm sure you can see the difference from another government run office.  They are many government run offices with different jobs and responsibilities.  This isn't about customer service.  Its about protection.  You are looking at it from a personal viewpoint and not from the job they have. Do FBI investigators, police detectives, CIA, whatever have a job to do?  Do they take on maybe not nice but necessary means to get to the truth? Yes, sometimes its necessary.

I encourage you to read some posts from others that have had very similar situations.  Use the search tool and look up Natasha&noor and the other many cases.

You have to have a thicker skin to get through a difficult journey sometimes.  You can't let a little laughter get to you.  Do I wish they could always be nice and cordial? Sure.  Do they have a job to do protecting our citizens?  Definitely.  Do I want them to get to the bottom of any suspicions they have?  Absolutely.

I would also add in a few extras. Some pieces of evidence you didn't give yet. Maybe an affidavit from family, pictures, something to add to it to boost their opinion.

I don't have experience with this type of situation, but that's what I was going to suggest too...

Email from website stating they can't provide records plus anything else you can think of...letters from family, maybe even your employers staying that they're aware of your relationship... what about things like have you ever helped each other financially? If so, maybe you can send proof of that too... I don't have a ton of ideas but yeah maybe search through VJ to see what other folks have provided...

sorry to hear about your experience, OP - hope it all turns out well!!

Did you read what I wrote?  Can you understand the difference between being nice and being professional/respectful?  Those are completely different things.

Again, they do NOT need to be "Mr. Nice Guy".  I was and am agreeing with you on that point.

However, they 100% absolutely without a doubt need to be professional and respectful.  That is a requirement of their job.  I can guarantee you that ridiculing or offensively laughing at potential immigrants is against State Department rules.  It doesn't matter how many people have experienced that situation, it still shouldn't be happening.

My husband told me they took him to a separate room and started asking him the questions.

Hi @DianaB -- sorry to hear about your situation. I have actually heard about this from a friend of mine and what she told me her husband (fiancee at the time) went through, well it was degrading, intimidating and went on for hours! They called him a liar, laughed, drilled him, asked the same questions over and over, they were aggressive and tried to trick him while questioning him (changing dates, names, places etc.).

This is not a common everyday ordinary interview method, like the one we recently had, where everyone was professional. It is more like interrogation (which is a profession on its own), which means that they can and will create a hostile environment in order to get some useful information for their case. I cannot say that I agree with how humanity deals with many things, but when it is about protecting the country, these tactics are deployed, much to my dismay.

That said, what your husband has gone through is a good indication on what can (or might) happen when a couple is lacking substantial and quality face time (time spent together) coupled with a first time meeting and getting married (unless it is customary such as an arranged marriage).

What can be done at this point? Send your findings from parachat to the Embassy and wait the 221G out. Once you hear from them, you can make plans for the future. If they approve, then no need to worry, but in case there is a snag, then plan for more trips and longer stays!

My best to you and your husband...

Diana, as painful as it is to you, they are doing it in your interest.  there are so many stories of women & men being frauded for paper work.  Marriages on their own are tough work and then where someone has met once raises a red flag.

Do send the letter you got from the site on to them and also add on why you were unable to visit - financials etc.  If possible put affidavits from those who know both of you and are of good social repute, such as an uncle who may be a professional etc.  You will have to visit your husband again soon and hope that if the worst happens and files gets denied or second interview eventually you have more evidence of meeting.

Who knows they may do other things like background checks which are only to protect you.  Stay Strong.

Best wishes to you and your husband.

Auds,

Thank you for the best wishes. It means a lot to me. My husband and I are doing exactly what they requested us to do and we will send all that to them. I contacted the chat room we met on and they could not obtain chat records. I will save the email and I have written a letter to the consular. My mother and father have also written a letter to help and support me as well backing up my relationship with my husband.
