  1. Hi everyone! Here's a new group for anyone who has just applied for AOS from K1 in July 2018! Fingers crossed for everyone!
  2. Hi! We will be filing for my AOS shortly, and since tomorrow marks the start of a new month I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread for all June filers adjusting from K1 visas. If you're filing soon or if you think you'll file within the next few weeks, please join
  3. Hello, My husband and I had our EB2 visa interview mid July in Montreal. My husband is the main petitioner and his visa was approved right away and got the passport back, but my case was put on an administrative processing since then. It's been extremely frustrating to say the least since we just don't know what's happening and how much longer we need to wait. At the end of the interview, the interviewer said that my case may take 3 weeks instead of 2 weeks to check the record but we both got green slips, and they never asked for any additional documents either. We both got our master's degrees in US and worked and lived in US prior to the interview. I have not been able to return to work and my home for over 3 months now, and I also have a toddler son waiting back home too. I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experience at Montreal and have any advice for us. I'm also considering asking for my passport back to return to my home in US and wait there. Has anyone tried asking for their passports back in similar situations? What does the process look like? Do they continue the administrative processing even after they return the passport back to us? Also, can I cross the border with the current passport event if they do return it to me? I currently have a valid TN visa. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Muchas gracias
  5. Hi! Is anyone in Kabul Afghanistan under AP? Has anyone gotten a visa that was under AP recently?
  6. Hi guys, My fiance and I applied for a K1 visa, and I went to the CO for an interview a month ago while he put me on "administrative processing", asking for my resume (i guess im under TAL, since I work in a technical field). 2 days ago it changed to "READY", with this statement under- "Your case is open and ready for your interview, fingerprints, and required documents. If you have already had your interview, please check your status after two business days. If no interview was required, please check back in two business days for the status of your application." 2 more things happened- 1. "Case Created" was changed to the same date as 2 days ago (it originally opened on January 2017) 2. It changed from "IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION" to "NONIMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION" Today (48h after ==2 business days) it changed to "Application Received", without a change to "Case Last Updated" (remained 2 days ago). What does "Application Received" means? there's nothing on google about it. Thank you all in advance! Regards, Dave
  7. hello, will someone please expalin what the "case last updated" changing of the DATE means ,especially during administrative processing, is it a good sign or not. there has been several opinions on the matter, some people said it is good since it shows that the case is being worked on and others said it is insignificant since it is probable automated. please can some on answer this case? thanks
  8. Has anyone used advance parole before? My husband and I are leaving the country for a few weeks and even though we have done everything correctly with getting advance parole and carrying proof of I-485 pending with us, I still get scared they won’t let my husband back in the country. 😭 He is from Mexico and I worry about the political attention that has been drawn to the border as of late.
  9. we had our interview on 12 september and we were asked by the counsil officer that one of the family member fill in the ds-5535, when checking the status on CEAC , the case update changed date from 12 september to 18 september, but the family member with administrative process date is still on 12 september. any one knows what this means? our visa is family based F4. thanks in advance
  10. hello guys, we have an f4 visa type, and one member in the family ( my son 19 years old) was given the ds-5535 form to submit (which he did), after the interview. the CC told him not to worry, because he told her that his university will start this fall, but she assured him that he defer his entrance to the university until spring and reassured him not to worry. my question is ; 1-are all visa types with DS-5535 treated the same since its been 13 years now since we applied 2-when the counselor assured my son about deferring his entrance to university to spring, was she giving us a sign that the AP will be cleared by then. thankyou in advance for any help on this matter
  11. My husband and I are finally looking at filing for AOS/EAD/AP. However, I have some questions and need guidance. When applying for them I have heard you need to treat them as separate aka need to attach documents to each form. Does the marriage certificate need to be a copy or actual certificates? What else should be submitted along side the whole package ? A thorough answer would be appreciated.
  12. Hi There, I just sent in my package today and it should be received in the month of February so i decided to start a thread for February Filers! Good Luck Everyone and keep us posted! Arrived in USA (Tourist visa December 20th,2016) Married - September 12th, 2017 Filed (I-130, I-130A, I-131, I-485, I-765, I-864)
  13. My father's initial status was Administrative Processing after his immigrant visa interview on June 27. He had to submit a few documents like updated police certificate and family registry and i864-A so he was given 221g. After submitting the documents on July 17, my mother's visa went from READY TO ISSUED on Aug 1 and my father's visa went from AP to READY FOR INTERVIEW. The date has been updated a few times but case still ready for interview. No feedback from embassy. Please help if you know anything about this scenario!
  14. Alright folks, brand new month right here, you all have made to the AOS phase. Congrats and happy new life together. This thread will be for AOS discussions for those who sent their AOS package in August 2018..... Good luck everyone and couple things, EAD/AP taking around 4 to 6 months Expedite Criteria : https://www.uscis.gov/forms/expedite-criteria AOS Checklist: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos USCIS Processing Times Page: https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ USCIS Inquiry about your case: https://egov.uscis.gov/e-request/displayONPTForm.do?entryPoint=init&sroPageType=onpt Enjoy
  15. Hey there! My F3 visa interview is conducted on 25th july 2019 and CO gave us a 221g form and asked for a joint sponser while we already have given one but she asked anyway. She didn't marked new joint sponser on 221g just joint sponser. The joint sponser which we already have given has income more than enough for 4 members. Now if i gave them joint sponser then how much time they are gonna take to review...Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
  16. Hi Guys! I filed for AOS/EAD/AP based on a K1 visa on Feb 2018 shortly after I got married. I received my EAD/AP combo card on July 2018 and it is valid until July 2019 (1 year). Meanwhile, since I reside in NYC, the AOS(I-485) takes much much longer than expected. I'm waiting for them to schedule an interview since September 2018 ("Case is Ready to Be Scheduled for An Interview"). USCIS is saying it takes 15-31.5 (AOS) months for NYC - https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ It looks like my current EAD/AP will expire (July 2019) before I'll receive my green card. What are my options? - Is it true that I can submit for a renewal up to 6 months before it expires? - Will they waiver the EAD/AP fee since it's based on a AOS? - Will it be quicker this time since it's a renewal? (It took me 5.5 months to get my current combo card) Thank you all so much, this forum kicks ###! -David
  17. Hi everyone. I've posted a few times about my fiance's K1 Visa case being in Administrative Processing at the US Embassy in Colombo, and unfortunately it's been over 1 year now. He was placed on AP under 221G and no other information was requested, so we assumed background checks, etc. Anyway, I checked the CEAC about 2 weeks ago and noticed that the status had been updated to "Expired." It has been the same since. Since we were put on AP, I checked nearly every day and noticed that we never got "Expiring Soon" or anything like that, and other than vague email responses from the embassy, neither I or my senator's office have not received any meaningful letter, request, or notification at all. I, along with my senator's office, emailed them right after I realized the status change, and neither of us have received any reply or notification of any sort. Calling is pointless because they will only tell me to send an email to the embassy, which we have already done. Is that it? is our petition cancelled? I thought that AP cases were renewed until completed and would not expire, but now we are worried and confused. Might anyone know what's going on or what our next course of action should be? Thank you
  18. Hi VJ peeps, Both my parents had their interview together end of June 2019. They had some documents missing so received a 221g sheet to submit the required. They submitted the documents on July 18. Throughout this period, my dad's status was at Administrative Processing and my mom's was at ready [for interview]. On August 1, my mom's status changed from Ready to Issued and she received her passport with the visa the next day. My dad's status changed from AP to Ready [for interview]. It's almost been a month now and my dad's status has not changed. We have tried e-mailing and calling. No feedback. Anyone in/or has been in the same boat? Appreciate any input.
  19. So... My combo card expires in 178 days (I applied for AOS from K1 almost a year ago, and zero news about that, still on "fingersprints fee received"). I heard that this year's EAD renewals are taking 6 to 8 months. Is that true?? What happens if they don't send the renewal before it expires? Are we supposed to stop working? I'm self-employed: would I have to stop working? Also, do I send the renewal application to the Chicago Lockbox or my field office? Thanks.
  20. Hey friends, Never thought I'd have to renew this bad boy-- but that's USCIS for you! I've read countless of threads, and the official instructions a few times through, but just want to make sure I haven't missed anything. CHECKLIST "Tear-off portion" sheet with 3 barcodes from previous EAD approval attached to the front of my packet (Original or photocopy?) EAD Cover Letter G-1145 Original i-765 2 passport photo's (Name and Alien Number written on back) Photocopy of i-797c for my i-485 Photocopy of i-797c for my previous i-765 submission Photocopy of i-797c biometrics appointment notice Photocopy of current EAD card (front and back) Photocopy of Potential Interview Waiver Notice Photocopy of i-94 (front and back) AP Cover Letter G-1145 Original i-131 2 passport photo's (Name and Alien Number written on back) Photocopy of i-797c for my i-485 Photocopy of i-797c for my previous i-131 submission Photocopy of i-797c biometrics appointment notice Photocopy of current EAD card (front and back) Photocopy of K1 Visa Supplement sheet explaining reasoning for AP request And then as a side note, to my knowledge-- since I'm ©(9), I don't need to pay a filing fee. And the address I should be sending to is: USCIS Chicago Lockbox For U.S. Postal Service: USCIS P.O. Box 805887 Chicago, IL 60680-4120 For Express mail and courier deliveries: USCIS Attn: FBAS 131 South Dearborn-3rd Floor Chicago, IL 60603-5517 Did I get everything? Pretty paranoid about sending this off-- as always!! Once again, all comments, advice and feedback are greatly appreciated!
  21. Hi all, I've been a long term reader of this very helpful and supportive site! As I've been reading so long, I'd like to share and ask if anyone is going through a similar situation as my fiance and me. 1) My fiance had his interview in Guangzhou on 2019-01-24. The interview was ~10 min, and the CO did ask about his PhD in Materials Science & Eng and also kept the resume my fiance brought. None of the instructions asked to bring a resume, but we wanted to be very prepared as my fiance is in a TAL field. Atfer the interview, the CO gave my fiance the blue slip with only "Administrative Processing" marked and informed him there were no problems and the processing would take ~3 wks. 2) On 2019-01-28, we received a follow-up instructions email from the consulate with a Word doc attached named "SAO-M" (we presume SAO indicates Security Advisory Opinion-Mantis"??). When we opened the doc, the header was "Administrative Processing". The doc asked for my fiance's detailed resume in both English and Chinese (format resembled the DS-5535). And on 2019-01-29, we emailed the resume as instructed by the consulate, and we have been waiting every since.. 3) We have emailed the consulate multiple times. I have called and emailed both my senators and my congressman. My congressman has been very helpful in contacting the consulate and then the DOS (Bureau of Consular Affairs). But each time, we still receive the same AP comment. I did call NVC last Fri, and received conflicting responses: 1st response said a note had been placed into the system stating the case has been returned to the USCIS on 2019-05-31. When I called again to confirm, the 2nd response said there was no such note. One of my senator's office did say the consulate will often return cases for further background checks. Right now, we are just very confused and frustrated. Any tips would be much appreciated; thanks!
  22. I petitioned to get a work permit expedited via my congressman as I have an impending job offer, which was successful, but due to a USCIS error (they thought I hadn't paid my fees) my i-131 application is about a month behind my i-765. I finally received my EAD card today but it says "not valid for reentry to U.S." on the bottom. I'm guessing that getting the work permit expedited doesn't also expedite the Advance Parole application, even though they seem to come together on a 'combo card' nowadays... From the brief reading I've done it looks like I might get the 'advance parole' on a separate paper letter, which is kind of annoying to have to carry around every time I travel abroad (which will be quite often for work reasons), but is there any point me contacting USCIS to ask if this is a mistake or if they can cancel my current EAD card and re-issue a 'combo card' once the AP is granted??
  23. Hi everyone I recently received news that my EAD card is being produced (106 days wait). There are no new notifications on my AP, though, and haven't seen anything after that first notice of "your application has been received". Does anyone know if EADs are also created without AP? Or do they always send the EAD/AP card combo now? I applied for the EAD and AP at the same time with my AOS. Thank you all! You are a wise group of people.
