Wow, just wow!

My impression is that  the document checkers at the “special desk” were part timers are your comment saggiest and based on apparent age, I’d say they were semi retired.  And definitely not trained.

I’ve been on 4 cruises since September and we saw CBP only on the return to port of the closed loop.  Miami was nice: facial recognition for citizens and LPRs.

Has anyone applied for a Shenguen visa while waiting for removal of conditions with extension letter?

I need a visa to visit Spain and Italy and I’m not sure how consulates react to extension letters. The visa application is tedious to say the least, so I’d like to be prepared.

Thanks everyone! I'm in Miami now and even boarded a cruise ship (not sailing, just on port) and worked the whole day. No issues.

I wanted to share something funny that happened (well, now it's funny) when I traveled with my extension letter.

due to COVID we didn't exit the country until this year, and honestly I was also a bit worried, even if I didn't have a reason to.

my fiance and I traveled to Costa Rica and when coming back through Houston, the immigration officer tells me to follow him to the dreaded

back office.

I just panicked inside during those five minutes that felt like an hour, until another officer yells my name,

and in a nonchalant way he yells from across the room: ''it's cool you're good to go. you were illegal at some point, that's all''

He meant those damn two days I overstayed on my tourist VISA back in 2016. Coming to bite me in the butt, yet again !

I sighed in relief and exited the office as quickly as possible 😛

Don't mess with Immigration, guys. don't mess with Texas.

Lol. Very funny indeed but I'm sure it was nerve-wracking when you were there!

Oh, I was dying inside! I thought that once I became a LPR the tourist visa ordeal shouldn't be a "let's walk to the back" issue. But things do stay on record forever and to be very careful!

Traveled via Turkish airlines recently.  Only  needed my expired GC and extension letter for the CBP.  That was a smooth experience.   For boarding the plane my Canadian passport was enough.  Funny thing, the airline staff only asked if I had GC after they had printed the boarding pass, and when I said I had one, they said I didn't have to show it to them.

They can make you walk to the "VIP room" even if you become US citizen, for no reason apparent.

See that's insane. I guess to them you become a  US citizen with a "*" next to it, or maybe a bob SquarePants sticker.

It happens to born US citizens too.  There are good reasons sometimes as well, e.g. declaring something false when entering.  Though I wouldn't be surprised if it happens to naturalized citizens more, especially those that were born in certain countries.
