J&A1234 reacted to mushroomspore in Sheriff asked for my passport
Technically, police officers can ask you anything but at the same time, you have the right to remain silent and to not discuss your immigration status with law enforcement officers. They cannot detain you in order for you to "prove" legal status either. Cops technically only need some form of valid ID. And your husband's right that it was weird the sheriff asked. Why did the sheriff specifically ask about a green card? What if you were just here visiting legally or on some other visa? Immigration issues are not in a sheriff's jurisdiction except in the case of a serious investigation where one or more federal agency has enlisted local law enforcement.
I'm trying to Google this further because there was quite an uproar last year over law enforcement asking immigrants (both legal and illegal) off the street about their legal status.

J&A1234 got a reaction from Cheburashka34 in Do any US citizens have first hand experience of traveling to Belarus?
Just Istanbul. We are trying to limit how much we travel.

Turkey is a MASSIVE tourist destination for English and Russian speakers. You will have no problem with the language, it’s a tourist country. Regarding safety, I would be a lot more concerned with possible COVID border closings. Plus there are direct flights to Istanbul from the US and Moscow. Imo Turkey is the best option logistically.

You don’t need a visa to visit Belarus as an US citizen. All you need to do is buy health insurance which can be done at the airport. Super easy from my experience.

J&A1234 got a reaction from Rosemichelle in Visa K1 now (October) or Wait?
Waiting to file won’t make anything faster. The faster you file, the faster you get your place in line. Also nobody knows what the processing time will be, but unfortunately it’s safe to assume there will be delays.

J&A1234 got a reaction from Lemonslice in USCIS Fee Hikes Are Enjoined (Halted)
I completely disagree with this. Living under the fear of unemployment, especially during a pandemic, will actually make people much less productive. I can only imagine how terrible morale is at USCIS. The blame should be on the decades of mismanagement of USCIS, and the ones bearing the burden include us and USCIS workers.

J&A1234 got a reaction from Duke & Marie in Unemployed sponsor
The job market in the US is hyper competitive right now, even for qualified individuals. I would make sure if you guys chose to go on with him being unemployed that you have enough savings for months or that the joint sponsor can take care of y’all.

J&A1234 reacted to Michellle in Any Solutions to Resolve I-130 Notice of Intent to Deny
MaleAlpha--thank you very much for sharing a relevant example, along with the encouragement that something of this nature could possibly be overcome. While everyone's feedback has been insightful and appreciated, yours caused me to at least lift my head because it answered my initial question of whether anyone had a similar experience that may have resulted in some kind of hope at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes it can feel like there is no hope when it comes to immigration and having others offer understanding and support goes a long way towards helping you get back up when you feel the wind has been knocked out of you.

J&A1234 got a reaction from ttigiras in K1 lawsuit
While I agree the impact of the lawsuit may be limited, I think reading the filing was very interesting and showed a lot of the issues K1s are facing. Probably the most concerning to me is the fact that some embassies have stated they will process expedited requests but NVC refuses to pass them on until “routine services are continued.” I know some folks dealing with the Moscow embassy have also gotten this. This makes the “high priority” status of the K1 at the embassy level irrelevant since they won’t even get the application.

I'm pretty sure the consulates/ embassies were just forced by the court to interview for the Diversity Visas.
