For me when I arrive to the Philippines I put my passport in a safe place as soon as I arrive to where I am staying. I only carry my USA drivers license around while I am there so that I can be identified if something were to happen to me. Your wife has zero reason to be carrying the green card or any passport around with her while she is there so if that's the case she should not lose it. I wouldn't even worry about this, you can not begin to plan for every possible scenario of what "could" go wrong.

Expiry date is whatever the expiry of the extension letter would be, so if it is an as currently issued 48 month extension, then add exactly 48 months to the expiry date of the 2 year card, and that is the expiry date to input.

Refused is a quirk in the system. Approved visas show as refused for a few days until it turns to issued. A site search will show many posts here on VJ about this issue.

    OP is correct.

Yacht crew are treated differently than commercial crew. If the ship they are working on is not a US flagged vessel, and not considered a commercial ship, B-1 is the correct visa.

    f. (U) Yacht Crewmembers May be Classifiable as B-1 or D Crewmember:
    (1) (U) In General:  Yacht crewmembers may provide services on board a recreational or commercial yacht.  Yacht crewmembers who will provide services on board a recreational vessel traveling to the United States are classifiable B-1.  Those who will provide services on board a commercial vessel and who meet the requirements under INA 101(a)(15)(D)(i) above are classifiable D.
    (a) (U) A recreational vessel is primarily used for pleasure by the owner or a guest of the owner.  Some private yacht owners maintain crews year-round even if the owners and/or the owner’s guests only use the yacht for periods of the year.
    (b) (U) A commercial vessel is primarily used for commercial purposes, such as for transporting passengers or cargo for payment or other consideration.

My wife started as an AU on some of my cards while waiting for AOS. She now has 3 cards of her own and I am an AU on one of her cards. She chuckles at that. She now has a 750+ credit score after only 2 years of having her own cards.

I can't give any advice for NY, but for any divorce the petitioner (you or an attorney representing you) must make reasonable efforts to notify the soon to be ex.  "Reasonable efforts" are legally defined... there are steps to go through to attempt to locate.  I see no reason why he would need to know your address.  The simplest and cheapest divorce is when both parties attend and agree on a settlement.

Carpe Vinum reacted to ShazShaz in How soon can I get married once I enter the US?
From personal experience as an ESTA visitor who got married in Vegas:

My USC fiancée applied for marriage license online. Different states/counties have different wait times. Once applicable, I flew into US, we flew to Vegas, went to county clerk to pick up the paperwork, and got married next day. The officiant mailed back the paperwork, we flew back and started filing up i-130 online. A week later we got an email from county clerk on how to request/pay for a physical marriage cert. Once cert is in hand, we completed/submitted the I-130, enjoyed 2 mths together and then I flew home.

Sooo the short story is there is no “wait time” to marry as long as the paperwork is ready and available. You can marry on a tourist visa, however be truthful when CBP asks you about your nature of visit. Impress on him that you are aware of how immigration works, your intention to marry and depart home to await the I-130 process, also have your return flight details ready (if CBP asks).

If you intend to visit your USC often while waiting the I-130 process, keep the visits short and spaced out. CBP will deny you if they think you are misusing your b1/2 visa to live in US.

Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials and welcome to your CR1 journey!

This is misinformation for any readers coming across this post. Show me one denial of I-130 for marrying in the US, especially when the person has left the US after.

@Daphne . is one of many who has married in the US as a tourist and then applied for CR1 abroad

And you do not need a permit to marry in the US. This is not the UK where you need a special visa to get married in the UK. Please stop spreading misinformation.

OP, your plan is perfectly fine. You can marry as soon as you enter as long as you depart back to your home country and pursue the CR1 visa.

This is incorrect. Thousands of people marry on tourist visas, including destination weddings such as Las Vegas. OP indicated no intent to immigrate - they clearly said they will be returning and pursuing a spousal visa.

This is not true.  There are no restrictions regarding marriage after entry as a visitor as stated by the OP.

AOS is supposed to mean that if she takes public assistance from the government then theoretically the government could come after you for to pay for the public assistance she took.  It doesn't say anything about you writing her a monthly check.  Alimony, divorce etc is a whole different issue but not directly tied to AOS.  I wouldn't pay a dime unless a court orders you to.
