Correct.  The poster was not familiar with Vietnam's strict Covid closures and did not realize the country was effectively closed for two years.

I had a similar experience on a flight from Saigon to Nha Trang.  There were empty seats on the flight but they wouldn't let me purchase new tickets for that flight, forced to take a later flight.  My wife and I hung out at the airport shopping mall.  Vietnam Airlines gave us money for our inconvenience.  I ended up ahead financially after it all, although pulling our luggage across the airport, across a street to the mall was not fun.

Appreciate your concern, but more than 40% of Vietnamese have Nguyen as a family name.  "Thi" is the most common middle name for a female, and Mai is pretty common as well. Even if it is the real name, no way anyone could do anything with just that information.  Kinda like John Smith, only on steroids.

JRF got a reaction from lady3jane in Approved I-130 Not Sent to NVC - Assistance Requested
    Hello
Our petition was approved by USCIS on May 29, 2013. The file has not yet been sent to NVC and I am running out of things to do in order to resolve this situation.
I filed a complaint (on July 10) with the USCIS ombudsman (no response received). I received an email from USCIS on July 18th saying the file was sent to NVC. I subsequently learned otherwise during calls and my trip to the LA field office on July 24th. During my visit I was told the I-130 unit supervisor would contact me when the file was sent to USCIS. This has not yet occurred (as of August 1).
Today (August 1) after calling NVC and learning they had not received the file I called USCIS. The first time around the tier 2 officer (to whom I was transferred after waiting 2 hours) was rude and in attempting to transfer me to her supervisor (it worked before) I was disconnected. Talk about frustrating - all I could do was take a deep breath and call back.
While waiting on hold again (I've been on the phone since noon and it's four PM) I sent an email to Robert Cowan and Donald Neufeld at USCIS. I read another posting on VJ where the petitioner did this and it got them results.
Can anyone help? With the transfer of files to field offices I knew the process would be chaotic. This is beyond chaotic - it's surreal and in a bad way.
    Thanks much!
    Jim
I am in the process of contacting my congressman (John Campbell).

Epilogue for this section of the journey. I called NVC and they confirmed our file was received on 6 August - after being sent from USCIS on 2 August. Now to follow-up on case number, etc. etc.
Best of luck to all and be persistent, proactive and take good notes!

thanks for the info JRF, and the laughs too   My MIL suffers something similar to all older Asians have, she thinks she's always right.  or maybe that's just how all MIL are.   I wouldn't mind her company too much, just that when it comes to how I handle myself and live, should be up to me, i'm not some kid who has no clue hahaha, although she probably thinks that.

His wife would probably say that it is up to the USG to determine how long she stays (length of visa) and that her husband has little or no say in the process.

My mother in law (who I enjoy having in our house) has visited twice, for five months each time, and not had any problems.  Six month visas each visit, separated by a year in Vietnam.

I don't think your research included reading the I-864 instructions.

A sponsor can sponsor as many people as their financial details qualify them to sponsor.  Becoming an A-Student of those instructions is going to be critical to your ultimate success.

It won't be ruled unconstitutional....non-citizens outside the borders of the US have no constitutional rights.....The President is well within his power to determine immigration policy.....imo.

Actually, this is not Trump's America (Or Obama's or Washington's or Lincoln's). That is why we do not pledge allegiance to the president but to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands.

JRF got a reaction from Irisandjoel in Calling senator because of no AOS or EAD updates
Assume you are in California and you have two senators, just like the fine folks in say, Wyoming.  Many more people/senator in CA vs WY.

Back when I was waiting and waiting and waiting I called both CA senators at the time, and was told they were too busy to help.  Feinstein's office was borderline rude.  What did I do?  I basically built an organizational chart of USCIS leadership, figured out their emails, sent an email (and cc'd the inspector general) and within 24 hours I "unstuck" our file.

I tried the local Congressional rep's office, and after educating a staffer as to how the process worked gave up...I wasn't in the mood for free training.

Best of luck, learn the system, and try to be patient...and I know it stinks (and is expensive).

I do not think they believed the reason for your travel.  Universities generally would not contract themselves with  recruiters as yourself - especially big names like you mentioned. They have more than enough applicants.

Is there a question you have? Or was this just a case update?

Also, I see you have TSC in your timeline. TSC does not process I-129Fs for a fiancee. You send the I-129F to a lockbox in Texas, but then it will go to CSC (California).

And you should try.  My mother-in-law has never worked outside the house, and she has visited us twice from Vietnam.  No issues either time with approvals.  My father-in-law retired and immediately applied for a B-2 (approved).  YMMV, but until you try how can you know whether it will be approved or denied?

Neither have any intent of ever staying in the US, but as others have mentioned the CO must assume an intent to immigrate.   That said, COs are human, and have good days/bad days.  Outside of what the law prescribes, they must make a decision.  My advice is to wear their best clothes, be humble, and take chances at applying.

    Best of luck!

JRF got a reaction from Russ&Caro in me and my overseas wife only skype once a week or once a month now is that ok?
People are especially judgmental - frequency of communication has no bearing on whether a couple stays married.  My grandfather was in theatre for three years during WW2, and he remained married to my grandmother until her death, despite the absence of anything more than an infrequent letter (they didn't Skype while he was transiting the Hump to Burma, and Whatsap was not an option).  I called my first wife daily or more when I travelled and, well, that marriage ended in divorce.

I've spent time in remote areas of Vietnam, and internet/mobile service can be very spotty and expensive.  OP, you go to your interview with what you have.  Fortunately, CO's won't expect you to be either 1) rich or 2) living in an area with fibre optic service.

    Best of luck!
