Filing for I-130 and I-485 For My Mother [merged threads]

Hi everyone!

 

I am a US Citizen and my mother is currently here in Los Angeles. She was supposed to leave last August 31st, but my husband and I decided to have her stay and we just file for her petition and adjustment of status. 

I have consulted through Just Answer with an immigration lawyer on the forms that I need to file and some guidelines. I know the forms I need to submit are:

 

I-130

I-485

I-864

I-765

G-1145

 

I am getting anxious given that the total filing fee is a huge amount, I want to make sure and get your inputs if this is really something that I can do on my own with seeking assistance from an Immigration lawyer.

How old is mother?  Can we have more information on how your mother came, i.e. which visa?

There's tons of useful information on this forum. Go through guides on VJ as well as relevant forums. Check 20-30 threads about similar cases and don't hesitate to ask questiins.

Hi, my mom is 71 years old and she came in here with tourist visa.

You should file I-131 and I-693 too.

Why does it matter?

I-765 is just another type of ID.

It's free with I-485.

No reason to avoid it.

If she is planning to drive, in some states she cannot drive without EAD or GC

We advise for minors to file for one too. It’s a form of ID and proves lawful status for many things.
