timeline says case is at NVC

Are you sure NVC wants an affadivit?

they are usually concerned with security and income

and US family would not know the relationship /  they have not met , right?

and Nigeria affadivats can't be enforced by our laws, so useless

Funny cos affidavits are considered weak proofs but if that's what they are asking for, then the friend should get it.

There is no standard format. If you google it, you will multiple options that one should be able to customize to fit the need

They are weak compared to other evidences mentioned bu uscis but when someone doesn't have enough of those, affidavits are important evidences.

To the OP:

If you google for templates you will find a lot. There is no standard on that. It's simply writing that the person knows about the couple in this n that way and signing with a sworn statement.

by defintion of affidavit so it can be used in court, it does

a written statement confirmed by oath or affirmation, for use as evidence in court.

Affidavits must always be notarized by a notary public. "Notarized" means that you have sworn under oath that the facts in the affidavit are true, the document has been signed in front of a notary public, and a notary public has signed and put a seal on the affidavit.

I would assume uscis will mention that if they need to be notarized if that's the case.

USCIS's own "affidavit of support" (i-864, i-134) must be notarized if that's the case.

Please have your friend create an account here and post the exact wording of the RFE. I find it hard to believe that they are specifically asking for affidavits. I think they may be asking for evidence of having met or relationship evidence, listing affidavits as an example of what she could sent. However, if that is the case she should really focus on the other examples listed.

Exactly this. Usually they send a RFE with a list of things you could send for proof of bona fide relationship. An affidavit off and on itself is not substantial evidence -anybody can write whatever to make you look good. Some people never send an affidavit and they are approved. It would be useful to read the exact RFE to help better.

affadavit of support is different than a sworn affidavit that is handwritten to attest to the relationship
