Having trouble finding a civil surgeon that does just vaccines for I-693

I've called three doctors in my area, all three of them either don't do vaccines for someone as young as 4 year olds, or refuse to do just the vaccine portion of the I-693. A fourth doctor will do it but has to see the child first and then refer her for the actual vaccines. Is this common?

The instructions for I-693 clearly state you can do just the vaccines if you had your medical overseas less than a year ago but didn't get all the needed vaccines, but Civil Surgeons seem to not know that. I heard that it's best to do them in the country of origin to save on money, but I didn't expect it's because the Civil Surgeon would make you repeat the entire examination.

From the instructions:

Quote

If you were admitted as a:

  1. K-1 fiancé(e) or a K-2 child of a K-1 fiancé(e); or

  2. K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen or a K-4 child of a K-3 spouse of a U.S. citizen; and

  3. You received a medical examination prior to admission, then:

    1. (1)  You are not required to have another medical examination as long as you file your Form I-485 within one year of an overseas medical examination; and

      (a) The panel physician did not find a class A medical condition during your overseas examination; or
      (b) The panel physician did find a class A medical condition, you received a waiver of inadmissibility, and

you have complied with the terms and conditions of the waiver.

    2. (2)  Even if a new medical examination is not required, you must still show proof that you complied with the vaccination requirements. If the vaccination record (DS 3025) was not properly completed and included as part of the original overseas medical examination report, you will need to have the Part 10. Vaccination Record completed by a designated civil surgeon. In this case, you must submit Parts 1. - 5., 7., and 10.

      of Form I-693.

The Civil Surgeons know what they are doing.

Just because the law saids you are not required to have an exam to get vaccinated, it doesn't mean that the CS are required to vaccinated someone without an exam.  Pretty sure they are covering their . . . . because of medical malpractice insurance.  Highly doubt that any doctor would prescribe vaccinations to someone they don't examine or come in to see them.

What would the exam entail though? More bloodwork?

I would say the whole nine yards, X-rays, bloodwork, tests. Around here that’s $500+. I went to the local state health department and I’m going to be sending my AOS package with that next month

Probably the entire exam.......liability is a real thing in the US.

Yikes. Well that stinks. The only reason we didn't do the vaccines was because she was so traumatized by the blood draw that we decided to let it go. You live and learn, I guess.

yes everything that is required for i-693. Vaccinations they take your existing records if you have. They have some low cost i-693 physicians around LA area. i remember doing it in LA area for $150 to just sign off last year .  you can also get vaccines + blood  work  at your health insurance company. there is no requirement to get them from the i-693 physician. its much cheaper

you have to call atleast 20-30 . some doctors will charge ridiculous pricing to sign off like 500-1000.

I disagree when people say they know what they're doing. This is a clear case of doctor trying to make money out of the situation. There's a post here in the forum called "Civil Surgeons that doesn't rip you off", something like that. Read the post and try to find a doctor near you. Call doctors at different cities around you too,  even if you have to drive a couple hours, it will still be cheaper. The requirements for vaccines for kids are different than adults. Find the vaccine that your kid needs, and have them taking it at a drugstore, for example. Them have the doctor to fill out only the vaccination part of the form.

I was in a similar situation with my wife. After calling many clinics listed on the (very outdated) USCIS list, I just googled and found a rather specific immigration clinic...basically 693s is all they do. There was an exam, 2 missing shots and a blood draw/blood test. $185, cheaper than anyone else we called, and way more straightforward. Just doing the missing vaccines, as the instructions would have you believe, is impossible in my experience.

The i-693 has to be signed by a USCIS approved doctor, just so you're aware. It can't just be any doctor/clinic.

A friend of mine had their medical yesterday, $300 plus missing jabs.

Now this seems a K2 and the medical was done but missing a few jabs and needs sign off on that. many moons ago I got mine done for free, trouble is finding a Doctor who will not want to do the full medical as that is what they are used to doing and how they make their money.
