Because we didn't need to shut down anything to prevent HIV transmission? Because the 1million stat is worldwide? Because we don't have 4 million (and counting) new cases of HIV in this country every year? Because the AIDS epidemic was slow to spread in the beginning and limited to certain portions of society?

COVID19 doesn't care if you shoot up or engage in unsafe sex. You can't get HIV from going to church unless you're doing something in the undercroft with an infected parishioner or pastor or whatever.

I sort of can't believe I have to type this stuff, and I prefer to think that you're just messing with me because it's less upsetting to me.

We don't need to shut down anything to prevent covid spread, either.  As proven by countries which have never shut down yet are doing fairly well as compared to others.

The (nearly) 1 million stat is deaths, so to keep apples with apples, that's covid: 642,000, HIV: 900,000+.  Granted, covid has only been going for about 8 months, so perhaps it will overcome HIV.  But the other 35,000,000 who died from HIV in the past might still win the race in the end.

Think what you will, that's your choice.  The fact is, not too many are upset about HIV today, and in a year or two, covid will face the same fate I predict.

You choose to be upset or scared about covid because it affects you, but try to downplay HIV because it doesn't?  I hope you realize that "shooting up" or unsafe sex aren't the only ways to catch HIV.  But your insensitivity to the millions affected by it is telling.

This is just veering too hard into the surreal for me to cope with, and I won't touch again the issue of words being put in my mouth that I never spoke.

Hope you never saw anyone die from AIDS. We had a close family friend who passed from it in 1996. I saw him a few months before his death, and I will never forget it. I do not take HIV or AIDS lightly. I also know that as a heterosexual woman in a committed, monogamous relationship where neither of us use intravenous drugs or need blood transfusions I am at extremely low risk. (Yes, there are other methods of transmission, I do know that, I'm not an idiot.) But I am at a higher risk of contracting COVID19 because of the way it is transmitted.

6 feet is a made up number

Some Europeans (can't remember who) pretty much settled on about 3 feet.

Australia allegedly recommends "the length of an adult kangaroo."

I just wonder how all these stores are going to scrape all those "stand no closer" stickers off their floors.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

If it was a European would have been metric.

HIV does not spread through air but Corona virus does. Lets be clear the incompetency of the administration with denial early on  is the root cause of the virus spreading.

Yes, it's all Trump's fault.  You win the internetz.

Perhaps you should study up on who ended federal funding for gain-of-function studies, with particular concern rising about influenza, SARS, and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS).

Hint: it wasn't the current administration.

Both HIV and covid are pandemics.  Both kill people.  The point is not about how they are spread, but about the differing reactions to both diseases.

Surreal?  Far from it, this IS reality.  No one has cared about the HIV pandemic in recent past because they believe they are safe from it.  Some are petrified by covid because they fear it can get them.  It's really that simple.

Glad you feel safe from HIV.  Since you're neither black, old, nor male, you are also at a lower risk from contracting covid. Not all of us can feel so secure.  But rest assured, we WILL get thru this pandemic too.

If you really want us to be clear, I've got bad news for you..

When the administration was trying to impose travel bans, state/local leaders were busy calling Trump racist, and even federal Dem House reps were promoting behavior conducive to viral spread telling people to go on down and party in Chinatown. This was at the time local health officials said masks don't work. Fast forward a few months and where has that gone?

But I totally get the narrative some need to push -- orange man bad. Just don't be shocked when others realize that this nonsense has zero to do with health and all to do with the politics of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Trump we were told was creating systematic racism against Asian minorities and that Chinese business owners were being retaliated against .

I think the word Biden used was xenophobic

Prior to covid, I probably didn't normally get within 10 feet of people in public unless I was in a long line.  6 feet is a made up number, just like "wear a mask for others" is a made-up phrase.  39 years of dealing with an HIV pandemic, and we never shut down a damn thing when 900,000+ people die annually.  It's really no different than #BLM and rioting over one criminal's death when so many blacks are killed every day.

#politics

(not quoting you to say anything about your post, just clicked the button cuz I figured you were safer to quote than some are.  Hope you enjoy the vacation.  I hear overseas locations are wide open, with little waiting in lines.  Best time EVER to travel, happy for you both.)

It's great. We are in Zanzibar right now and we are the only two people in the whole resort. Our beach is like a private beach. We have a private chef and our own butler. Truly one of the best vacations ever (I would say tied with the Galapagos). And yeah we never really get close to people either so this has not been that different.
