Hi VJ members

i got to the United states since November 2019 through k1 visa and i applied for my GC and my work authorization, but before i applied for anything i worked with a grocery shop for one week but I didn’t know that I cannot work until i get my work permit and as soon as i knew i quit right after i knew. But I didn’t give anything to the employer such as social security or id and I didn’t take any check from them. And i told them I cannot work for now. So today i got my work authorization and i went to the grocery shop to get my check for the week that I worked earlier, they gave me to sign form i-9 and w4

is that gonna effect me or wat?
i gave my work authorization and my social security when i got my work authorization in hand to get my check

thanks u

Risky move

You now have a W4 with a start date way before your work authorization

Actually I didn’t know that I cannot work under k1 visa and at that time the employer didn’t ask me for social security or id and when my social security came in the mail, it says that valid for work only with dhs authorization, ever since, I realized that I cannot work until my work authorization comes and u quit right away and I didn’t take any check at that time

This WILL come up at your GC interview and you will have to tell the truth.

The truth is that I didn’t know that I cannot work under k1 visa and the employer didn’t ask me for social security or an id and wen my social security came in the mail i saw that they need dhs authorization so i quit right after i saw my social security

Why did you go back and get them to pay you for the illegal work? Smh

Just be honest. It is not a bar to AOS in your case.

Amazing that they did not want an I-9 originally but asked for one once you had proper documentation...to anybody on the outside, it would appear that their decisions were amazingly coincidental.

It's cancelled. You will get a new one when it's your turn and when they reopen.

You will be interviewed eventually.

USCIS expects you to know the conditions of your visa.

Totally agree and find it a little hard to see how someone didn’t know you’re not allowed to work

I alway wonder, why people have computers, Internet, smartphones, bluetooth headphones, Video games, and all the other electronic toys. Yet they have no clue about immigration.
