My goodness... YES.

In normal circumstances, you would use the expired card and the letter.  Your situation does not allow for this because you do not have a card.  You were only sent the letter because it’s automatic upon filing the i751.  It’s essentially useless in your case.

Go to the field office, and get the stamp.  If they ask you to surrender the letter, that’s fine because (see above comment - it’s useless TO YOU).

The stamp will be your green card for all intents and purposes until your i751 is adjudicated.  It’s proof (the stamp) of your lawful ability to live, work, and travel.

Pay attention to the duration, bc you will need a new stamp once the first one expires.  Repeat this process as many times as needed until your i751 is adjudicated.

I'm not sure how many times people need to tell you yes but yes and I've done this twice. Stamp and foreign passport only.

The letter is useless without a physical, expired green card......since you don't have one, the letter is useless...........a stamp in your passport IS A GREEN CARD>........

I thought all I-551 stamps come without an "up to" part?

13.0_List_A_I-551_Stamp_to_go_with_Unexp

Those  "issue date" and "valid till"are absolutely in IO's discretion.

Usually it's granted for one year. But  we've seen people, who were given the stamp for all kind of period of time. Even for a month.

Have you heard of them doing this before, stamp and voiding ext letter?

Also will I have any issues at all with POE with just stamp and foreign passport?

Yes, when my wife got her stamp as her extension letter was about to expire, they actually took her expired GC and the extension letter at our local office.  As many others have said, the stamp is a functional valid I551 and proof of LPR status, so no issues at POE except for the potential of a short visit to secondary for verification.
