also they said stamp is 6 months not one year is that correct?

It's up to IO. Stamp can be given for any time- 3 months, 6,9, whatever months - up to a year .

Do not leave the US without stamp - you won't be , most likely, boarded with an Ext. Letter without a green card.

Go back to the office, and get the stamp in exchange for your Extension letter.

Have you heard of them doing this before, stamp and voiding ext letter?

Also will I have any issues at all with POE with just stamp and foreign passport?

Not heard personally but it makes sense what they are doing.

No. You may also bring i751 receipt notice just in case one crappy POE officer interrogated, highly unlikely.

But why would they void ext letter for a stamp? I still have over a year remaining on validity of ext letter. I am very paranoid about these stuff

Coz that would not make sense if they don’t void it. If they give you i551 stamp for 6 months, then the extension letter may suggest your Resident status is extended by 18 months after the expiry of i551 stamp as i551 stamp is itself the proof of your resident status up to its validity.

you are overthinking way much than you need to.

Yes, I have.  My expired green card was taken in exchange for a stamp. Since you don't have one - it makes the perfect sense to take your Extension Letter.

Seems like you are mistakenly thinking that your Letter is valid, for international travel. It is NOT without an actual expired green card.

You won't . The only thing that will happen - you will be pulled to a secondary inspection. Which is a regular routine when someone enters the country with the stamp.

The letter is useless without a physical, expired green card......since you don't have one, the letter is useless...........a stamp in your passport IS A GREEN CARD>........

You cannot use the letter without the card. Period. Full stop.

My experience is the opposite - I lost the letter and they took away my card when they gave me the stamp.

You. Are. Overthinking. This.

You’re not listening to the advice you requested. The stamp serves the purpose of the card + letter. There is no purpose in having the letter in your case...so stop worrying about them voiding it.

Nobody can promise you won’t have an issue with the stamp (only USCs are guaranteed entry), but traveling using just the passport + stamp is done all the time without issue.

So because I still have a long time until 18 month ext letter expires, your saying traveling with just the foreign passport and  ext letter are valid. What if airport asks me for green card although I hand them the letter cause letter says, valid proof of residency and travel with expired green card.

please advise

That's not what I said, no.

I said it's okay if your extension letter is void (no longer valid) if you get the stamp, because all you need is the stamp in your passport. You have no use for the extension letter anyway if you don't have the old (expired) greencard. So if you can get a stamp, do it.

This is all I would like verified from the community, that traveling ONLY with i551 stamp and foreign passport is sufficient.

Long story short, 2 year Gc has typographical error, filed i90 and sent in GC but never heard back, eventually submitted i751 which caused i90 to deny. So now, I don’t have any green card but i751 is pending and I have the 18 month ext letter. I wanted to get a stamp for international travel but field office said if I get stamp on passport the ext letter will be void as I can’t have both????.

Please advise if this is true and if I would have any issues traveling internationally with just foreign passport and ext letter.

travelled once with foreign passport, GC and extension letter.

its a normal route I guess they ask your passport because they want to see what visa your ON.

once they can't find visa they will ask you for GC. Once you show them GC .

they will ask you for extension letter or simply tell you its expired.

at that point your last resort is your extension letter anywy's

in your case if you have a stamp instead of the extension letter than they will just check that.
