Hi ujones... read this but then it was deleted?

My understanding is that after a DS-160 is submitted / appointment made, you cannot modify it.  My question is... can we just bring the form that shows the business name and we are good... or do we have to cancel the anointment, submit a new DS-160 and go to the appointments again?  Seems like a huge waste... but I get it, the employer name should be X when it's actually Y... even if the rest of the document is correct.

Any issues after the ds-160 form has been submitted you can make changes at the embassy during the interview. It's done all the time, no problem.

Getting the SSN after marriage has added a layer of uncertainty to the process. We have seen few who have had success with that but it is always dependent on two factors; the location and the agent. You can go to a SS office the day after you arrive and get the SSN which is much quicker then getting married and then getting the SSN. JMHO

This is what works but you have to have all your "ducks" in a row including the SS document RM10211.530 to use in the event that the SS agent is unfamiliar with the regulations that permit you to have a SSN before your AOS and EAD are adjudicated.

As a K-1 Visa Holder you are eligible to receive a SSN upon producing a valid I-94 (unexpired). Do not wait until you only have a few weeks left until your I-94 expires to file for a SSN. Many SSA (Social Security Administration) offices will not allow you to file for a SSN if your I-94 is about to expire (generally 14 days prior to the expiration on your I-94). On the other hand, you should also not file for a SSN too soon either.

You should wait 1 week after arriving in the US till you are in the SAVE database that you can go the next business day. If you go too soon your record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet (what is SAVE), and it will require manual verification from the USCIS. As this will add weeks to the period it takes to process the SSN, it is advisable to attempt to wait the two weeks to be safe. If you have waited the 2 weeks and they tell you they cannot verify your arrival record via the SAVE database, then personally return on another day to have them search again -- thus eliminating the manual verification (you don't want to do the manual verification as it adds so much more time to the process).

To apply for a SSN you will need to go to your local SSA office and bring the documents below. These documents are proof of your eligibility to file for a SSN:

The SS-5 form  download and complete the application (they have some at the office if you forget).

Your Passport (with the K-1 Visa attached)

Your valid I-94

Another form of valid ID (birth certificate will do nicely)

You should also print and bring the document RM 10211.530 , in the event that the agent is not knowledgeable that K-1/K-2 are eligible to receive a SSN.

https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

Make sure to bring all the documents above because some offices have staff that are not aware that a K-1 Visa Holder is eligible to file for a SSN. A friendly reminder is a nice thing to have -- if not you could be turned away incorrectly

Once you have successfully applied for your SSN, the SSN card will come in the mail in about 2 weeks.

K2 visa holders must first have a work permit (EAD) to get a social security number.

After marriage

Carry your marriage certificate to the social security office to get the social security card in the new name. If you applied for a social security number before marriage, you can go back to the social security office after marriage and get your name changed on your social security card.

The social security card will be marked “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH USCIS AUTHORIZATION”.  That means, you need to get your EAD first before you can actually work.  Hopefully, when you submitted your AOS you included the EAD. If not you will now need to submit the paperwork for an EAD prior to working.

Thank you sooo much.

one last question for today, if I wait the two weeks to get the ssn and I need to wait for it two weeks or so for it to be mailed, can I get married in the time period or do I need to have the Ssn in hand? The state I’m getting married in doesn’t require the ssn but I’m afraid of issues about the ssn being invalid if I get married before I get it.

u can go back to the SS offices and ask them to give u the number. They may say no or they may give it to you.  It takes 24h to have the number assigned so u might have luck waiting a day or 2. It really depends on the staff, ymmv.

Have you tried created a new profile.

The email id that I have used to create an account on cgifederal is the same one that I had put in I-129F form. So I don't wanna create a new email id just to create a new profile. It will just get confusing and wud be difficult. I had written to the embassy and they asked me to select any visa class. I have done that and will take that confirmation copy along with the email as proof.

Hi all,

Query about the Tax Transcripts.

My fiance download the tax transcripts from the IRS website for the first time but it doesn't show complete name, address or SSN.

Is it normal that all this information is partially hidden?

How will embassy come to know that the tax transcripts are of the petitioner cause complete name is missing?

What other documents I shud provide apart tax transcript as part of I134?

Yes. I just got mine too. It just shows the last 4 of the ssn and the first four letters of my last name. I'm happy to know I am not the only one) Seriously, they do that for privacy and security.....

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

I just remembered this GEM. Here is another solution submit an inquiry at the CGI website, tell them your case number and your name and the problems you are experiencing and they will correct it.  Https://cgifederal.secure.force.com

Hey everyone happy lunar new year:D

Hope you guys all doing well and getting to the final stage soon.

Just scheduled my interview in March and my fiance will be in town too.

Got 90% of the requested papers except the 1040,

my fiance told me that the IRS website wouldn't let him download it.

I hope the system will be fixed soon.

Hang in there everyone, it's almost done!

I believe it's not the IRS website as others are getting copies without any problems. It can problematic because they check a number of sources to ensure it is really the owner of the SSN/Tax form being requested. Some are reporting that they too can't get it because some of their information didn't check out and that is not to say its the applicants fault, just how the system works. Their is still time to apply via mail.

Are you 100% certain... I've gotten a couple different responses.

Can they make edits to your digital submission for an employer name?

Hahaha.... I have tried everything. Told them the k-1 option missing, system error/bug, add K1 option to my account, delete my account so that I can create new one. I thought of every possible thing but these guys have jus one answer for all. Contact embassy. 🙄 I have a feeling that since US embassy in Qatar do not use cgifederal website for scheduling K-1 interview, they must be having the k-1 option and the website ppl have no idea how to add that option for address registration and probably that's why they keep on directing me to contact embassy. It's jus my assumption. 🙄😒

The op says "but it doesn't show complete name, address or SSN." So to me there is enough information showing to tie the transcript back to the case file. And besides you're standing in front of the CO and you just took the oath that everything you say or present is truthful. So how stupid would it be to bring some else's document?Hmmmm.
