I hope so too!  I am using your timeline as a measuring stick for my own haha.

ustraveldocs says:

Which I found confusing/concerning, because we'd specified delivery options.
I emailed ustraveldocs, and they said:

We would like to inform you that according to our system data your passport is ready for pick up, by which means your passport is about to be delivered to your mailing address which was filled by you as your Premium Delivery address.

Well folks she is finally home September 27th, 2019.  I want to say thank you to all who helped me achieve this.  There are too many to name.  But i will not forget the effort it really does take a village to raise child.

Marriage will take place in April time frame...and subsequent to that...AOS, Advanced Parole and the like.

A special thanks to you Sir! @Greenbaum

Your a lucky man. You guys look great together and I immediately established you were in the RDU airport which is 15 min from my house. I wish you nothing but happiness in your new partnership. Happy days are ahead.

I finally got my passport back with my visa. I’m so excited. Wanted to say thank you to all helping people and also the ones that just help to comfort each other.

Good afternoon, family!  I know there is a separate thread for DS-5535, but wanted to start by asking my question here since I've been following all of your cases and feel like we are in it together!

Does anyone have any experience with 5535 in Colombia, or have any idea why the form may have been triggered.

29 January: My Colombian fiancé had her interview.  Everything seemed to go well.  Consular told her, "I cannot give you your visa today, but I'm going to take your passport, check something in the system, and we will notify you when it is ready"

30 January: Status changed on CEAC to nonimmigrant visa, "application received"

1 February: My fiancé received an email requesting a completed DS-5535 "Supplemental Questions for Visa Applicants".  We completed the form and sent it back before the end of the day.

My lawyer believes this was triggered because I am a US Military Officer.  Any thoughts?  Should we expect to be in limbo for another 6 months?  My fiancé grew up in the same low-risk city her entire life without any connections to questionable activity/people.

Thanks in advance - we both appreciate this forum and following your stories.

Hi all, my fiancé arrives tomorrow! So nervous and so excited for this next step. I have a question about opening a bank account. I called the closest bank and they said he just needs passport, visa, and proof of residency. He will be living in my house I own and I was planning to just add him to my family cell plan (already have five phones on there...what’s another!?). Wondering what others did to get this proof. I suppose I could call the utility company and ask to add him but I’m afraid they will require a SS number (they did when I signed up). TIA!

I went to open a bank account and had the same problem. I couldn’t open it because what they need is some bills on your fiancées name with the address where he will be living at. If you add him to your cell plan (thats what we did) the bill will be on your name, he doesn’t need a SSN but he wont hace any proof of residency.

We are going back to the bank again next week and he will just add me to his bank account, that I think we just need our passport for that...

Banks will need a SSN. Now it works differently for each bank but we are at Wells Fargo and they put my wife on with the temp SSN and when she had her green card with her new name and also the SSN with her new name they wanted her to return to show proof for the finality of created the addition of her to the account. Was simple. Check with your bank.

AOS here: https://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

SSN:

This is what works but you have to have all your "ducks" in a row including the SS document RM10211.530 to use in the event that the SS agent is unfamiliar with the regulations that permit you to have a SSN before your AOS and EAD are adjudicated.

As a K-1 Visa Holder you are eligible to receive a SSN upon producing a valid I-94 (unexpired). Do not wait until you only have a few weeks left until your I-94 expires to file for a SSN. Many SSA (Social Security Administration) offices will not allow you to file for a SSN if your I-94 is about to expire (generally 14 days prior to the expiration on your I-94). On the other hand, you should also not file for a SSN too soon either.

You should wait 1 week after arriving in the US till you are in the SAVE database that you can go the next business day. If you go too soon your record of arrival will not be in the SAVE-ASVI system yet (what is SAVE), and it will require manual verification from the USCIS. As this will add weeks to the period it takes to process the SSN, it is advisable to attempt to wait the two weeks to be safe. If you have waited the 2 weeks and they tell you they cannot verify your arrival record via the SAVE database, then personally return on another day to have them search again -- thus eliminating the manual verification (you don't want to do the manual verification as it adds so much more time to the process).

To apply for a SSN you will need to go to your local SSA office and bring the documents below. These documents are proof of your eligibility to file for a SSN:

The SS-5 form  download and complete the application (they have some at the office if you forget).

Your Passport (with the K-1 Visa attached)

Your valid I-94

Another form of valid ID (birth certificate will do nicely)

You should also print and bring the document RM 10211.530 , in the event that the agent is not knowledgeable that K-1/K-2 are eligible to receive a SSN.

https://secure.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/lnx/0110211530

Make sure to bring all the documents above because some offices have staff that are not aware that a K-1 Visa Holder is eligible to file for a SSN. A friendly reminder is a nice thing to have -- if not you could be turned away incorrectly

Once you have successfully applied for your SSN, the SSN card will come in the mail in about 2 weeks.

K2 visa holders must first have a work permit (EAD) to get a social security number.

After marriage

Carry your marriage certificate to the social security office to get the social security card in the new name. If you applied for a social security number before marriage, you can go back to the social security office after marriage and get your name changed on your social security card.

The social security card will be marked “VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH USCIS AUTHORIZATION”.  That means, you need to get your EAD first before you can actually work.  Hopefully, when you submitted your AOS you included the EAD. If not you will now need to submit the paperwork for an EAD prior to working.

I checked https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home and my fiance's i94 isn't in the system. Its been a week now. Do I need to wait for this to be updated or is the stamp she got in her passport the i94 ? When the i94 is available on this website is it safe to say that she will also be on the "save-asvi" system as well ?

I would give it another week but then I would say make a trip to the SS office if it is not an inconvenience to you. Usually the I-94 is what you see and the SS agent sees it as well as other information in the SAVE system. The two are supposedly tied together.

hey guys, maybe you can help me rest my mind a little bit... Im flying with my k1 tomorrow and only booked a one way trip. Problem is, that i saw some people have problems with the airline still wanting a return ticket because they dont see the k1 as an immigrant visa. Is there any official statement from the government about this?  I saw a link to it in an older thread but the link didnt work anymore.

do you maybe know more about this and can help me please  @Greenbaum ?

Double check her passport, because my husband's passport shows one number in the 'Passport Number' field, but when I tried with that number, it couldn't find the I-94.  Then I tried with a number called the 'Passport Book Number', or something like that, and that number worked.
