animal schelter...really depends on where you live...last time when I was in San Diego I went to Safari park, turns out the people that welcome tourists and tell them stories about the place are volunteers as well:P Good luck

A lot of people already gave good ideas. I myself volunteer at 2 animal shelters.

One thing is very important, NEVER volunteer anywhere where they could get paid to do it without your EAD (aka, a not non profit organizations) and don't take anything (food, shelter etc) from them, since that's a way of payment. For example, if you start volunteering in a grocery store (just a goofy example), that's NOT allowed since someone else could do it and get paid. That way you risk a denial of your Greencard. Non profits like shelters, libraries etc are fine and I even read really good for your case, since the officer sees you did something useful and helpful to the USA in your spare time :)

Hi folks.

I am a April AOS filer but I applied for AP in September (I know, I know--bad move on my part). I was just wondering if anyone from September had received their AP yet?

Only expedites. They just started August AP applications and are only on Aug 5th.

Allowed.

At one point in time you could obtain a temp EAD that was valid during your first 90 days. That's why K1s are "allowed" as they need both the EAD and SSN to work.

I am a little lost with this... I have a SSC since 2010 - was here on a work and travel program. Now just waiting on the EAD... you saying I can obtain a temp. one?

I'm referring to the temporary EAD that K1s can apply for under category A6 (not C9) and would be valid up until their I94 expired. With current processing times for any EADs of 4 to 6 months, applying for this kind of EAD is useless as it would not be approved before the I94 expired.

BUT that is the reason why K1s are allowed to obtain an SSN upon arrival and before their I94 expires-as they would need an SSN to work if they were granted this temporary EAD

So yes, if you were a K1, and applied for this temporary EAD under category A6, essentially you could work upon approval of that EAD and up until your I94 expired. But because approval of ANY EAD takes longer than 90 days to approve nowadays, you would not get it before your I94 expired.

Essentially this type of EAD is useful for those K1s who have employment secured before they arrive in the US, have evidence of that employment offer to expedite. But even then, if the expedition did happen quickly they could only work up until the I94 expired at day 90 after POE and could not be renewed under A6 as that category of EADs is not renewable.

Of course now it takes longer again 😫Know some April and June 2018 filers, both had their EAD/AP combo with 4 months. Lucky us I guess. But we'll be waiting patiently...
