It sounds like your case is electronic so you need to dial 5 when you call to ask for your number, instead of 7. Don't fret, it shouldn't take much longer. They are telling everyone 8 weeks but it does not take that long.

I think a case being electronic or not depends on the embassy receiving the case and how that embassy chooses to have documents sent over

It's my understanding that it's based on your embassy but I'm not 100% sure, i.e. some embassies are electronic and others are not.

NVC  got our case March 15, is it too early to call them and ask for the case #?

i've seen some post that it'll take up to 8weeks for them to assign a case #. how true?
