I hope this doesn't sound too cynical but after all is said and done I believe many lawyers care about the money being lost.

Immigration is a huge money maker for my attorneys (and many other industries) and they need this revenue. They may not necessarily care about our plights to reunite with our loved-ones but they miss the cash flow I can assure you.

So be it. Let them rattle some cages and maybe get some progress for all of us. In an election year news like this can sway politicians much more so.

Mainly because people are generally too lazy to read/research and rely on hearsay.

How is immigration law complicated unless one has a complicated case to begin? It only gets complicated for people who go in blindly, again, without reading/researching on what they are getting into. One can successfully go through the process by following the guidelines and instructions on USCIS and travel state unless of course they can't, which is a different case all together. I mean, even VJ has DIY guides for straight forward cases. Ignorance is never an excuse, not especially in this day and age of vast resources

I, too, am discouraged with the backlog and the state of Immigration/the World right now. In my case, however, we chose the K-1 because while my fiancé and I have been together for three years, he's never been to the United States, we have never lived together, and frankly haven't spent that much time in each other's company. We are going to make the lack of an EAD for a while work... he's going to be going to school, anyway. We think that, for our situation, it is better to have that up-to-90-days (planning on around 60) to spend time together, introduce him to the United States, culturally acclimate a bit before being in a marriage that after all of that simply may not work. We think that's the right thing for us.

It would be a lot easier if we would just get married, await the CR-1, and have a more assured immigration process. We were planning on spending a lot more time together during the processing time, but then a pandemic had to happen. Even though it looks like it will be a prolonged engagement, I'm still thankful that we've decided to be, for us, intentional in choosing which path to take based on our own needs.

All you K-1 applicants and I-129F filers, keep your head up! We'll get there, through uncertainty and pandemic/pandemonium. And the joys of marital feuds will come. One day at a time. Somehow or another, tomorrow always seems to come.

It sounds like you need to call your heart and mind for a serious meeting. You seem to already have non negotiables set for your relationships, going against those will end up in you being unhappy. It's cliché but there are lots of fish in the sea. I bet amongst the many fish there's one that actually resonates with what you want in life. Don't give up looking. Good luck!

@retheemon a different note, when were you at the US embassy in Kenya? Did they e-mail you once they received your case? Things shut down just when my case was ready at the embassy so trying to figure out their normal process. Thanks

    Hey,

I believe for K-1 you don't need an invoice no. There are no additional documents to submit to CEAC. The case number you received is it. Just go ahead and fill out the DS-160. The consulate will communicate via e-mail.
