Had my interview yesterday, smooth and quick experience. Oath the same day. Officer was rushing my interview because the certificate office closes at 2pm and my interview was at 1:35pm. Made it with 4 mins to spare. So happy to be done with the process. Now to do all the admin! Good Luck to everyone still waiting!!!

So I opened up the case tracker app and it said that they were still reviewing, but I thought I would give it a refresh (not sure why it didn't do that when I opened it) but hey! It popped up with the notification that my Interview has been scheduled for August 1st!!
Filed early Jan, case changed 06/21. Hoping PDX office is a breeze.
Good luck to those who are still waiting, it's coming!

Just had my N400 interview at the Portland OR field office. Appointment at 9am, they let me bring my coffee inside, started at 9:20am.

Got the six questions including the Federalist Papers one that I don't think a single American knows the answer to. Went through the rest of the form. I did end up mentioning my red light camera ticket I got after I applied, got a chuckle, we moved on.

Got to see the entirety of my USCIS history and it was like four inches tall. I'm sure some of yours will be even higher. Jarring.

At the end, I was asked if I wanted to do the oath right then and there. I said of course. The officer reminded me that I'll have to surrender my green card so I better not have any immediate travel booked. No ma'am. Took the oath in the same interview room, told to go downstairs and wait for my certificate. 20 minutes later, got my certificate and I'm now a US citizen!

Super easy and no games. Everyone was super nice. Within an hour literally the whole process was completed and you're done with USCIS!

    Good luck everyone!

I am very confused. So I was told when I bought my house that if we were to ever sell it then we’d owe more taxes as I’m an LPR and not a US Citizen.

If that is not the case then that’s great, I’ll still go ahead with the citizenship application.

I have no issues being an LPR or USC. I just wanted to know if those who have become US citizens have ever had a problem or negative experience since becoming one. I’m wanting to keep my British Citizenship as well and know that I am allowed to but has anyone experienced issues with UK Pension/taxes or other things I may not be aware of?

thanks for all the comments this far! Hopefully this clarifies my post a bit!

Hi Emily. I have been a dual US/UK citizen for 10 years. I have personally found no cons.

You will want to keep two passports renewed, if that is a con to you because of the fee around £100 for British renewal and courier fees. Of course on the flip side you would have to renew your greencard for a fee around $540.
With two valid passports you can get in the “short lines” for arrivals in the UK and the return to the US. (Kind of a bonus after a long flight.) Your USC family can use the British citizen line with you. We do that at Heathrow. That’s just a reason to keep the UK passport renewed after you get a US passport.

Not sure what the tax comment meant other than if the person thought of you as a total foreigner, non-resident alien who has to file a 1040NR which taxes at a higher rate (around 30%?).  The profit made on the house could be taxable income, but there are many exceptions why it wouldn’t be. And you would not be filing a non-resident income tax return with a higher rate anyway. The realtor or mortgage lender likely doesn’t know all the ins and outs if immigration. That’s just a guess on the tax comment.

So VisaJourney sent me the "we haven't heard from you in 6 months email" and I opened it like... WOW has it really been that long already. It has absolutely flown by unlike all the other times I've been waiting for news.

Thought I'd just check in and see how everyone is doing  Still nothing since the fingerprints were applied. We're about to move into our first home together so I'll be sending the change of address form soon. Hoping that won't cause any issues with getting that 10yr GC.

Hope you're all doing well! So happy to see a few that have their cards already. SRC seems to be killing it. Wish LIN would hurry up a bit

    Best, Emily!

THIS. Even though I had visited twice before and both times for a month each, nothing prepared me for the last 6 months I've had to sit here and wait while my now Husband carries on like normal (goes to work). If I had to do this all again, I would choose the CR-1. I still have a wait to get my EAD and even longer for my GC. Even the strongest of us suffer sometimes.

    Hey everyone!
We had our AOS interview yesterday in Portland, OR and were approved! I'm so happy that we're taking a break from visa things for the next 20+ months. He didn't take any additional documentation off me or photographs but I was glad to have taken my folder with me just in case. He didn't ask as many questions as I thought he would, just some of the ones on the I-485 and then about our plans for the future. Should get my green card in 3 weeks! I'm really glad because I have AP but no EAD so I can't wait to get to work!

Good luck to everyone remaining! Hopefully won't be much longer.

Your case might be taking longer with Background Checks and that's why people after you have been worked on before you.

While I agree they should process within the time stated, you do realize it’s not their fault if the background checks take longer to come back from the respective agencies? I remember my K1 taking longer because someone in the UK government couldn’t be bothered to reply to their request for weeks. This is mostly the reason why cases appear to not be worked in the order received. I’m not sure a law suit is the right way to go about it but I wish you luck.

On the USCIS processing times site, it says they're doing May 25th (as a rough estimate as it's usually behind what they're actually processing) so once this site is after your date then you can put in a service request to find out what's going on

TransplantUSA got a reaction from Apple Bee in Why some cases may be faster than others
From what I have read and when I have spoken to USCIS officials, it can be the background check that takes a while as they are having to get data from multiple agencies not just in the US but also the beneficiaries home country and collaborate it all together and then look through the file. My K1 case was delayed a long time for my background check and neither me or my then fiancee had any criminal records, name changes or family issues. It could also be that the name is similar to someone on a watch list, so that will go through extra scrutiny.

I also read that sometimes when a case officer goes on holiday, their work pile is not touched, so it waits for them to get back. Sometimes, like a previous poster has said, they just push files back, maybe if they aren't set on a decision.

Unfortunately, there is nothing to do but wait. It is the worst part, I know. I hope things move along soon!
