I'm not attacking but sharing my opinion. I believe that this statement is quite ridiculous because everyone who is born in the USA needs a birth certificate. It is needed for a variety of things such as passport, receiving medical services, etc so parents should be paying for a birth certificate. Now for those who naturalize we need a passport as we have no other proof except for maybe a military ID if you are in the military.

I liken voter rights to the immigration process. There is a process to be able to immigrate to the United States: petition, approval, consulate interview, entry, AOS, ROC, N-400. These are all processes that are required excluding N-400 as becoming an American citizen is a choice. When I came her I had to apply for my AOS and ROC or else I would get deported. In my process K-1 -> Citizenship I had to have 4 FBI background checks, fingerprints taken 5 times, and provide proof of my marriage, etc. In the same way, voter rights have a process and if you are not a citizen then you are not to vote. There should be a process to determine if someone is a US Citizen or not or else elections will be skewed. Not to mention the fact that if you vote and are not a citizen this can hurt when you apply for citizenship.

Here's my honest opinion. Require people to show a US Passport, Passport Card, or US birth certificate to be able to vote. When I was an LPR I had a drivers license so I do not think showing just any ID would suffice as anyone can get a Driver's License or State ID.

More information is at this link, Family of Green Card Holders (Permanent Residents): https://www.uscis.gov/family/family-green-card-holders-permanent-residents. You will have to get married as fiance(e)s can only be petitioned by US Citizens.

Personally, if I was you, I would be talking about very important and serious topics. If you guys are thinking about marriage (CR-1) or pursuing the K-1 you need to get serious about where you are both at with the serious deal breaker topics. There was a recent poster on this site who got all up in arms when his wife decided that she did not want to have children or live in the same house that the mans mother purchased and now he wants to revoke her visa after it has been approved. So, that being said, I would discuss deal breaker topics with her to gauge where she is at and go from there. If there are deal breakers that you are not willing to compromise then you go your separate ways, if not then you can proceed to the next step. I would also have her answer the questions first as you do not want her parroting what you say since you think she may be using you.

For me and my now wife, when we were pursuing the K-1 we discussed children. I stated that I would not mind having a few more children and she wanted children at the time. A few years into our marriage she stated that she did not want to have children and I was okay with that because it was not a deal breaker for me.

Remember, once you marry her you deal with her flaws and all so get as much information as you can. For me, I would rather break it off in the beginning than get a few years into a marriage and then have to get a divorce cause that could be ugly and costly...Just my two cents. Hope this helps.

The bolded text above is what disqualifies you from applying for citizenship at this moment under the 3 year marriage rule. As NikLR stated you will have to wait 5 years from when you became a permanent resident. There is a calculator that tells you when you can apply based on your residence since date that is at this link: https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator. For example, if your resident since date on your green card states Dec 15, 2015, you will enter Dec 15, 2020 on the calculator which says you can file as early as Sept 16, 2020. Also keep in mind that you should wait 2-3 days after you are eligible if you are applying online as others have incurred issues applying online the same day they are eligible. Hope this helps.

Make that four Canadians in a row. I love pineapple on my pizza. Unfortunately for the last six years I have been deprived of this. Whenever I tell someone that I have had a Hawaiian style pizza (pineapple, bacon, and ham I believe) they are like, ewww. I tell them they don't know what they are missing. But yes, pineapple for sure belongs on pizza.

You have to wait in line just like everyone else. I had to wait one year from petition to US entry and I am from Canada. The process is long and you will need to exercise patience no matter what avenue you choose.

I agree with @JFH admonition. I remember when my now wife and I were going through the process for the K-1. Let me tell you, it was stressful for me because I am very detail oriented and then it spilled over to her. Then we had adjustment of status and I broke at times because I thought that if I did not apply before my my I-94 expired that I would get kicked out of the country. She stood by me through it all and supported me the best way she could. In our almost seven years of marriage we have had not only four processes to go through with immigration (K-1, AOS, ROC, N-400) but have had personal arguments. If you love your wife then you will see through this and know that it all gets better.

Another item I would like to note is that you guys have been married for over two years so you do not have to deal with ROC and she will get a 10 year green card. You will not have to deal with USCIS for another three years if she decides to obtain US Citizenship. If USCIS comes to the house and your marriage is legit you have nothing to worry about. I remember saying to my wife, "Let them come for a visit because we know that our marriage is legitimate. They can see how we live." Maybe you need to sit back and take a breath of fresh air and think about all the great times you and your wife have had together and then think of what it will be like when she is reunited with you here in USA.

If I may ask what was the argument about? If you do not want to share here, feel free to PM me.
