Ivie & Eguagie reacted to jaysaldi in Has anyone had trouble boarding a flight to the USA because green card is in MM/DD/YYYY format and card looks "expired"?
Well, I wouldn't expect every airline check in person around the world to know the US date format, and as I mentioned the date of birth on the same document is in DDMMYYYY format (with the month written in three letters).

It seems to me that the USA is setting up some green card holders for problems by doing it this way.

Ivie & Eguagie reacted to ThaOne in Civic test: Do you need the exact wording for each question?
Both tests aren't really hard. Those who may have problems are people who may not speak English well, so it may be a communication issue, but the questions are already there so at worst, you just have to memorize the answers if you didn't already know.
Either way more than half the american born citizens would probably fail.
And NO! You do not have to respond word for word, but why wouldn't you? The questions are read exactly as they are in all the practice materials online or in leaflets. Most questions, there really aren't any other ways to answer. i.e who is the speaker of the house?, what Ocean is on the East Coast of the US?... Just answer "Pelosi and Atlantic". No need to launch into a paragraph.
Most questions are a name or just a word answer, it is okay to answer using that one word or sentence. There aren't many options. They don't want you to give your opinion on anything. Actually that would be a mistake.

The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter when it considers the qualifications of the nominee the next president nominates, whoever that might be,"

RapidVisa isn't exactly this pillar of US immigration wisdom.  For people that choose to send pics with their petitions, I have never heard any negatives about writing details on the backs of photos.

We didn't even send any photos, except for the required passport style ones.

One thing I want to say about the The New Colossus poem on the Statue of Liberty. It was written in a time when America had instituted slavery. Which was then followed by segregation and civil rights wars (including women's rights).

To me, that is the ultimate sign of hypocrisy. So it is absolutely no surprise that the Sonnet Poem holds no water.

America has been "like this" for centuries.

    Good list! Thanks for sharing!

The only one I would kinda disagree with is #1. Being prepared is good in terms of the other factors noted - being nervous, sharing too much information, etc. But for the core questions, I actually believe it is something one generally should not practice. An answer that appears rehearsed can go against you negatively as well.
I guess my suggestion would be "know your stuff, but don't rehearse it".

We can relate this to visajourney.com as an immigration community which needs help and resources from its members to keep it going. So many people come on here, ask questions, get answers and supports from members - once visa is in their hands and they made entrance to the US, that's the last time they will come here - some even delete their accounts and forget their experiences would have been useful to this community if they had stayed to help others like they were helped.

If everyone disappears from here once they have whatever immigration benefits they are filing for, will this platform still function to its full capacity?

But then, people are going to be people no matter what. That's life.

My take is that if one is here (VJ) or anywhere else helping others through the immigration process expecting anything more than a thank you is wrong.  I know I don't ever expect anything more than that of those I help out away from here and of course sometimes I don't even get that, but I don't let it bother me.  It is sort of like my time as a volunteer firefighter, I never expected anything more than thank you.

I'm mid-way through page 3 and I'm surprised no one has mentioned your comments regarding the incorrect answers given at interview as a possible reason for all of this, too - if your partner was asked your age TWICE and she got it wrong TWICE that's a huge red flag in my eyes.  If you just had a birthday I can imagine saying "he's 29, oh wait no he just turned 30 last week" being acceptable but if the CO has your details in front of them and can see you're 35 (as an example) and she's said "he's 33" then later when asked again says "he's 37" that's a big problem. Same as not knowing who you work for.  Incomplete answers would be fine ("He works for Mockingbird" rather than "Mockingbird Industries") but giving a totally different company or job role or whatever is an issue.

IMO you'll have a better chance if you go to India, marry, and spend a large amount of time together. Several months at least. Really get to know each other properly.  Personally, if I were in your shoes, I'd expect that the interview for her spousal visa to be extra-thorough based on the CO notes from this one, so she'll probably be asked more questions and more in-depth ones with a higher threshold for "correctness" given that she got so many fundamental things wrong with this one, they'll be on the lookout for signs of fraud and a marriage of convenience to get her a green card vs. for love and to be together.

    Hi guys,
I  arrived in the US yesterday. My POE was JFK and everything went was very smoothly. The officer just took the yellow envelope that the embassy gave me, my fingerprints and stamped the passport.
Good Luck to everyone waiting for the ILs! I hope the floodgates open soon.

Yes, there are things that are not true your previous statements. Here are a few...

Decision on what? They will not need to make a decision because a decision is already made. There is no sign of abandonment unless he does so himself.

This is not true. A green card holder can surrender their green card. Here is the official steps..https://www.uscis.gov/i-407.
Another person (be it spouse or other relative) does not have the legal authority to cancel a person's green card when it has been approved and issued. What they can do is notify immigration of fraud. And fraud requires substantial evidence to back it up to have the green card revoking procedure to begin.

    This is correct.

And this is where you went wrong. How do you know this? You claimed we are the ones speculating speculating in one of your replies but here you are speculating. How do you know he will not return next week? How do you know he will not be knocking on OP's door with flowers saying he made a mistake because the whole process intimated him and he was homesick? In two years you, nor any of us, will know where he would be.

    Not in this case.

She can call. But they will only tell her the same thing we are saying.

    But lastly,
VisaJourney has a policy where we allow people to post advice and opinions. People know that the advice on here is not legal advice. But that does not mean the members can not give advice. VJ has a strict policy on insinuating or telling others not to post their opinions or advice as long as it is not derogatory or abusive. To say "It is not our place to say" is frankly bordering on limiting the opinions of others. The OP should take the advice on here as they would a stranger on the streets. But if there are no terms of service violations, people can still speak their opinions.

If this is how he's behaving, be thankful he showed his hand before you got married and have to go through a divorce. See the glass half full instead of half empty. Enjoy the USA as a tourist for the duration of your stay and return before your authorized stay expires.

There's really nothing you can do. It sucks but that's life, you keep your head up and keep moving on.
