Does English Translation Need to be Certified by a Professional?

We have a 72 page document in Spanish.  The embassy pre-interview checklist says it must be translated to English but doesn't indicate whether it must be professionally done or if we can just translate ourselves. Any idea?

Read the text written in red.  You do not have to translate documents written in Spanish.  Translations would apply to documents written in a language OTHER than English or Spanish.

He was convicted of a crime so I'm looking at the second "box."

 

It specifies that it must translated. I just need to know if it needs a professional translation or not. Because if it's professional,  I'm estimating it's going to cost about $900USD.

The red section is to be read in conjunction with the upper section. Crazy Cat is correct .. if the document is in Spanish it does not need an english translation

It needs to be translated by someone fluent in both languages and signs an attestation confirming.  If you or someone you know qualifies then they can do it.

 

However, nothing in Spanish requires a translation for an interview in Mexico

Don't waste your money.  It does NOT have to be translated since it is in Spanish.  The red text applies to ALL civil documents.  Believe me, you are not the first person to ask this question.

I will say again.  Any document written in English or Spanish does NOT need to be translated.

Not applicable to documents in Spanish, when interviewing in Mexico.  You would have translated documents sent to USCIS.

agreed. MX primary language is Spanish so it makes no sense that they would need anything translated from Spanish.  I just wanted to answer if they need a professional to translate docs, which they don't and can save money.
