Hi everyone!

My husband is set to enter the US next week on his CR-1 visa. Will the government shut down affect him entering the US? I know CBP is essential and USCIS is funded by fees so they will still be working. But will they not properly process his visa entry at the airport due to the government shut down or deny him entry because of the shut down?

Did anyone enter on a IR-1/CR-1 during the last shut down and can provide some insight?

Thank you!

Security matters will have to be handled, regardless of shutdown.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

It appears the House have passed a one month extension

Thank you!

you could fly 1st into Canada for the US inspection and then on to US to avoid issues

https://www.cbp.gov/travel/preclearance

look under Canada

and CNN reported 9 minutes ago that the Senate proposed a bill but House did not approve it

https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/government-shutdown-deadline-09-29-23/index.html

Transportation Security Administration agents, like air traffic controllers, are considered essential and will continue working during a government shutdown, so TSA screenings should proceed as normal.

We have him flying directly into the US, but that is helpful information. I can only see online that work visas might be affected and applications of that nature at the airport? It’s confusing.

Where did you read that? I see that they failed to pass. We have interview on Tuesday and I'm afraid that it will delay more our process...

I think they will pass a continuing resolution to temporarily fund the government....

Seems the Dems with a few Republicans in support voted it down.

Yes, I did. Packed my things and left promptly. Had the business class to myself. Officer lost my visa package at POE. That’s it. But no shut down as of right now, no?

When tomorrow starts without me..

please try to understand, That an Angel came and called

my name, and took me by the hand; The angel said my

place was ready, In Heaven far above, And that I'd have

to leave behind all those I dearly love. But when I walked

through Heaven's Gates, I felt so much at home, for God

looked down, smiled at me, And told me "Welcome Home."

So when tomorrow starts without me,

Don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me,

I'm right there in your heart.
