N-400 Interview: Lost My Old Passport with US Visa on it

Hi. So my naturalization interview is scheduled for next month and I was preparing by gathering all required documents as per the interview notice but I cannot for the life of me find my old US passport that has the visa on it that I originally entered the US with. I have old black and white copies of every page from that passport on an external hard drive but I'm really worried that the officer will insist that I needed to bring the original. Has it been other people's experience that officers asked to see the original entry visa?

Note: I have another old passport that has the stamp of entry with the date and type of visa, but not the visa itself. I also do not have my I-94 because it was not stapled to my passport and fell out and got lost at some point, but that was not a hinderance to getting my green card because I had a copy of it.

Never asked for my wifes Visa in her passport at Naturalization interview, didn't ask for much of anything really. Bring what you have as other have said, and you will be fine. You have made it this far, and I found the N400 part out of all the other petitions I did was the smoothest and easiest process of all of them.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!

Yeah that is a big issue

Unless you can show you renounced U.S. citizenship or had it revoked, you are not eligible for N-400.

That is, unless you are American Samoan.

I was wondering about that, but the topic says 'old passport with US visa' so I assume typo

If you made it to the interview concentrate on the civics test and English. My wife had none of that stuff and Officer did not waste his time on ancient history and never asked. They know all about you. Bring what you have and if asked for the original be honest with them and you will be ok. Like I said they know all about you by now.

I am yet to see a US passport with US visa in it 😜.

Just another random guy from the internet with an opinion, although usually backed by data!

Me neither, and yet given American Samoans have no legal right to enter the rest of the U.S., I cannot say for certain it is impossible.

if u have a US passport,  why do u need to do N400?

It's not a US passport. It's the foreign passport from my country of origin and it has the visa that I used to enter the US 21 years ago. The naturalization interview letter says to bring original documents that were used to enter the US, so the visa that I entered the US with would be such a document.

No idea how to edit my original post but I want to apologize for the misunderstanding because I accidentally typed that I lost my US passport. I don't have a US passport. The passport that I lost is the foreign passport that had the US visa on it which I used to enter the US.

  • 4 weeks later...

I couldn't find my old passport since I've moved twice in the past year and things go missing. Wasn't an issue 🙂. They only wanted to see my current UK passport, my drivers license and my green card. I had brought my tax return transcripts and original divorce decree too and even mentioned I had them but she didn't ask to see them.

ROC from CR-1 visa (Green Card expiration date was Nov 24th 2016)

Link to the evidence I submitted. Be sure to send evidence spanning your entire marriage (especially for K-1) or as far back as you can. Just one or two bank statements will not cut it. I primarily focused on the two years of living here since I came in on a CR-1. If you don't have the fundamentals (i.e. joint accounts/policies), you can explain why in the covering letter. E.g. "While we do not have joint utilities, we both contribute to them from our joint bank account".

September 26th 2016: I-751 package sent to CSC

September 28th 2016: Package delivered
September 30th 2016: Check cashed
October 3rd 2016: NOA1 received with receipt date of 09/28/16
November 3rd 2016: Biometrics received with appointment date of 11/14/16.
November 14th 2016: Attended biometrics appointment
October 30th 2017: Infopass appointment to get I-551 stamp
February 26th 2018: I-751 case number (aka the NOA1 receipt number) becomes trackable
March 14th 2018: Submitted service request due to being outside of processing time.

March 15th 2018: ROC approved. 535 days (1 year, 5 months and 17 days)

March 29th 2018: Card being produced

April 4th 2018: Card mailed out

April 6th 2018: Card in hand. Has incorrect "resident since" date. Submitted service request on I-751 case (typographical error on permanent resident card) and an I-90 online.

April 2018 - August 7th 2018: Tons of service requests, emails and now senator involvement to get my corrected green card back because what the heck, USCIS. Also some time in May I sent a letter to Potomac telling them I want to withdraw my I-90 since CSC were handling it.

August 8th 2018: Card in production thanks to the direct involvement of Senator Sherrod Brown's team

August 13th 2018: Card mailed

August 15th 2018: Card in hand with correct date. :joy:

October 31st 2018: Potomac sends out a notice stating they have closed out my I-90 per my request. Yay for no duplicate card drama.

My wife brought all her passports, but the IO also only wanted to see the latest - which has never been used to leave and reenter as we renewed at a consulate within the US
