Husband threatening with deportation

I entered the US on a K1 visa. Got married 14 months ago and have had my conditional green card for 6 months. 

Things with the husband are bad. He recently threatened suicide if I left him. I called 911 and he was put on 72 hour hold. 

Since he's been out all we do is fight. I will be getting copies of the police reports. 

However, tonight he said that if I divorce him he will call immigration and have me deported or would use a lawyer to do so. Our marriage was real so is it really that simple for him to do this?

I know I will need a waiver to remove  conditions after a divorce.

He cannot make a thing to get you deported. But, he can make the removal of conditions very difficult. 

 

So start gathering every piece of evidence that proves you married in good faith and file for divorce.

Nope, you’re golden as you already have a green card. Gather all important documents now and put them somewhere safe or with a person you trust. You can file a divorce when out of the residence so there’s no screaming match why you did it. Have all communication go through a lawyer.

He cannot do a thing. Gather all the documentation/evidence that the marriage was in good faith... this will make the removal of conditions process way easier. Pretty much keep evidence of EVERYTHING and try to keep it in a safe place and with someone who you can trust. Get a lawyer and file for divorce, good luck with everything, i wish you the best.

He is experiencing a real Cris if they put a 5150 hold .

He does not magically stabilize on release and would probably be best he gets care and support from other family members ( if he has any, call them and ask for help on his behalf)
 

You are “fighting “ with someone who does is not able to manage his emotional state and unless you love him enough to take a temporary role of caregiver ( till he gets to psychiatric/psychological treatment and possible meds)…then take a moment and evaluate what if any part of life with him you are willing to stay in. 
 

Your green card will be ok,…but he is still in danger of self harm, without help/ support

I would like to add to this. You know what your life has been and you know him. Think long and hard about everything you have been through.

If he has been showing any type of emotional or psychological abuse he may be using suicide as phycological abuse. I've been there and it happens and it worked on me. That is until I drove him to the locks where he said he would jump. I don't ever recommend you do this but I was in that marriage for 15yrs.

It's good you called 911. Be very careful, as the threat of deportation can also be more psychological abuse.

Be extremely careful about someone who threatens to kill themselves if you leave them. They may not stop at just harming themselves. We've all seen news reports of murder-suicides when the spouse being left behind decided to take their family's lives before taking their own.

He told the cops he did it to get a rise out of me. They were not impressed. His parents are 100% aware of the situation but are no help at all. I just know I can't stay in this situation anymore. I need to look out for myself as well.

Threats of suicide, and of ruining your immigration journey/life as you know it, are still part of a violence pattern.  Leaving is often when this escalate; the website has good tips on how to leave safely.  Also, good tips on what documents to gather (add what will be needed for you to remove conditions, as much as you can).

He cannot affect your immigration status.

 

You can document the threats he has made and consult a divorce attorney.

If he tried to talk his way out of that involuntary hold …

Fellow sounds more as @Ontarkie described, able to manipulate, rather than a love-sick-languishing-Romeo.

Exactly. By making difficult/preventing removal of conditions it can ultimately lead to deportation.... so it IS possible for an angry spouse to really screw someones journey up if so inclined.

Same, but it's still ongoing and kinda sick of it now.

Again, this is just not true. He can't directly do anything immediately  but he can do things which WILL affect it, as the OP is still in the conditional stage.

Well, you can file your I-751to remove conditions by yourself, so you don't need him to do so. The waiver is just a box ticked saying you are divorced. 

However, if he says the right things to USCIS, then yeah, it can still cause a whole load of issues down the line and affect your I-751.

I'm the prime example here - my sociopathic malignant narcissist ex- spouse  intentionally and deliberately said exactly the right (or entirely wrong, depending on which side you are on and your intent) completely untruthful thing to USCIS, and they issued a denial based on that, and consequently i'm now in my 8th year of removing conditions, and it kinda sucks, y'know?

Goes without saying you need to leave, but you also need to gather any and all documents you have of a shared life together. Anything. That includes police reports, photos, bills. Copy them and save them. Divert your own mail so he cannot access it too. 

Protect yourself first and foremost.
