After quite a few years going through more than one immigration process one gets truly familiar with the trials and tribulations of this journey, but sometimes it is so amazingly contrived and flawed that one can feel as if dragged into a quasi-kafkian plot.

Yes, and it is what it is.  We must rise to the challenge.  When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Many things we do in US are contrived or just plane controlled so by our government that we are forced into hiring a lawyer to get help (and that sometimes is fruitless)

Try settling a claim on your own to SS disability or from a car accident that u are the victim

but immigration needs Congress to really do an investigation (they have known illegal immigration is a problem now for 20 or 30 years and take no news steps to combat the problem forcing all the presidents now and former to make rules)

Congress needs to form a committee to study illegal and legal immigration

anyway ,  sorry i vetted too much

As an immigrant I find it quite interesting when Americans are griping about their immigration system. It is almost inevitable that US immigration is bogged down, it is the #1 destination for immigrants of all stripes and contrary to the narrative being forwarded is extremely accommodating of immigrants.

With most countries you can’t petition for anyone aside from your spouse and children. Yes the US immigration system needs work however be grateful for what you have while working for change. Many immigrants have managed to chain migrate their brothers and sisters and parents etc to the great Ole country which would have a zero chance of happening anywhere.

Go USA 🇺🇸!!!

Another reality is the lack of political will from the masses to actually reform immigration. Most Americans have zero clue about USCIS and how it actually works, so they have no idea of the problems and what to even vote for change on. How can we expect reform to make it to Capitol Hill if the vast majority of people aren't even aware of the problems?

In my experience, most Americans just assume if you're married to an American, you get US citizenship automatically like it's an overnight thing. The topic of legal immigration is hardly discussed and so few know anything about it. I vaguely remember H1B's being discussed in the news for a while but that was it. Congress is only going to care about this issue if large swaths of the population start caring about it, and how to make that happen? I don't know. Immigration law is a boring topic, it requires research and reading, I don't see it becoming a popular point of interest for most people anytime soon. :(

So true

My neighbor applied (2000) for his Philippine wife and 3  kids to come and i was shocked it took a year

that was my 1st ever exposure to immigration

and i knew nothing about the DV lottery / that was a real eye opener

Learning that they give green cards to countries that they big deem terrorists training countries blows my mind when women of a country aren't allowed a decent education or learn English so the winners are young men (think about that one)

and look at list of countries allowed to apply

A good example of applicants and outcome is from 2017 results

You need to understand why we have a lottery system and you wouldn’t be saying what you are saying.

Its name gives you a clue, it’s for diversity so it’s serving it’s purpose very well in my opinion.

DV lottery in itself is insane to me: I don't know of any other country with such program. Merit-based or family-based immigration makes sense to me, but a simple lottery does not.

I also think it's a bit overly generous. It also excludes people who are "over-represented" here, like Mexicans, despite many of them having family or actual connections to the US but no real way to immigrate. So, just by nature of you being born in X country you end up lucky and get a chance? Obviously those who benefit from the DV system will praise it, and those who are shut out from it will feel it is unfair. And then the chance to be selected numbers seem all over the map as well. If you're from Fiji, you have a 7% chance but if you're from a sub-Saharan African country the chance drops to lower than 1%. I don't really get the logic behind this, other than I guess Fiji is more "exotic" and rare, so hey, let's give Fijians a higher chance?

I do know people who won the DV lottery and had nothing but praise for it and came over to he US and brought their whole family, and that's probably a good thing for our demographics. I don't think it's without criticism though.

i am saying as an American "i knew nothing about dv lottery till i started my husband's process"

and i was still naive as i thought he couldn't apply for the DV lottery while we were doing the K1 or CR1

and US gives CR1 people a hard time as in our case (6 years)  but if he had won DV lottery he could have come a lot faster

this doesn't make sense

and my grandparents are from Finland ,  Scotland ,  Germany and an Iroquois Indian /  and i grew up in a Finnish community surrounded by Italians and i understand diversity

i am saying if a country is deemed a high terrorists threat  so much so they say No tourist visas for the country (i am thinking of one in particular that the internet says no tourist visas will be given  but they are still allowed a business visa or dv lottery

Yes because immigrant visas are scrutinized thoroughly while visitor visas are not, so I can understand why a visitor visa will be summarily denied while an immigrant visa would be issued after scrutiny.

Regarding business visas, America is about greed and commerce so don’t be surprised they are accommodating of business visas. It may be counterintuitive however I can understand it.

In any case where did you get the information that for a particular country business visas issued while visitor visas are not? I am just curious about the info and source.

it was a pop up that came when i was searching

plus i routinely check the visa stats for approved visas per month and visa class and embassy

It may be because of covid restrictions now but it actually said "Most visitors from xxxx will not be allowed to travel to USA"
