No no, we’ve been here since we immigrated (my daughter and I). Haven’t been back home to visit since I left in 2019.

The I-131 was just part of the I-751 package.

Which box in I-131 did you check?

It would have been 1d, but now I'm searching my computer to see if I filed one and I can't find it.

I'm starting to think I sent one in with it by mistake.

1d is

“I am applying for an Advance Parole Document to
allow me to return to the United States after
temporary foreign travel.”

An APD is generally not available to an LPR.  So the message you got USCIS   sense: “benefit received by other means”

The “benefit” of APD is to leave and enter the USA without risking your authorized presence in the USA. The “other means” is your I-551: your expired gc plus your 24 month extension letter.

After the extension letter expires you can call USCIS, say “info pass”, and request an I-551 stamp that will let you travel.  That is assuming you have not received a 10 year gc or a naturalization certificate by then.

I am eligible to apply for citizenship in January. Can you apply for citizenship while waiting for I-751?

ABSOLUTELY! Moreover, I’ve heard it’s only beneficial and speeds up the whole process with I-751 too. I’m eligible this October and will be doing that asap!
Also, are you sure you’re becoming eligible only in January? You are in October filers thread. Whoever is married to a US citizen and got their Green Card in Jan of 2020 is eligible to apply for naturalization this October(after 2y9mo of having a permanent resident card). Double check your eligibility with USCIS filing calculator on their website.

@Elena & Craig the faster processing of I-751 is not guaranteed by filing N-400.

It is not, but I value real people experience and so far it does help to apply for a citizenship as soon as you are eligible. Won’t hurt to do that anyways, why wait…duh

At at least one field office it slows down the process.
