I think in general a letter of invitation stating they will cover expenses is not needed.  But just a few years a US Citizen living in Philippines did one for 5 people who was either his sisters and or they were his uncles.

 

The older woman from Philippines were approved which is pretty normal for a tourist visa, the kicker was the 3 youth all being around age 25 were two females and one male working in Singapore they are Philippines citizens they were all approved.

 

Just about 6 month later another single female cousin filed for tourist visa in Singapore and she was from Philippines, and she was denied.  So I saw that letter actually make a difference.

Here is my take on letters of invitations. If they were so successful then the denial rate would be much lower across the board because everybody would be doing it. Logically, if 100% provided invitation letters then the denial rates would be almost zero. That is why the theory that a letter helps does not hold water. And this board has seen, time and time again, how someone came on here to report that they took a letter of invitation yet the interviewing officer didn't even look at it and denied the applicant.

The parents need to focus more on showing what reasons they have to return to their home country, rather than the obvious factor of their children living in America wanting them to visit (which is all an "invitation letter" does.)

Exactly. How many times have we seen “they didn’t even look at my documents”!
 

The most common reason for denial of visitor visa is 214b, immigrant intent. An invitation letter does nothing to address this and in some cases it may actually make it worse;  what overcomes immigrant intent is ties to home.

Just because you saw this on some random website (that no doubt wants to sell their services/get web traffic) does not mean that it's true. Like @arken said, nobody can guarantee that those coming in on a visitor will return, especially not just because they said so in a letter that isn't even required for the application.

 

The parents need to focus on their strong ties to their home country and their reasons for returning. That is the best way to get approved for a visitor visa.

You got this quote where? Nowhere official, that’s for sure!

 

Please explain, how does the host “guarantee” that their guest will return home? Kidnap them and frog-march  them to the plane?

 

(PS your source does not seem to know the difference between visa expiry and authorized stay…)

There no guarantee for any visitor visa in any part of the world. Burden of proving ties is always on the applicant and invitation letter doesnt guarantee the visa and I never mentioned any where it does but it does help since government can always hold the issuer accountable if things go south.

US has the most illegal immigrants in the world how do you think they end up here. No one can guarantee any thing but Invitation letter does gives Government the edge if any thing goes south they can always hold the issuer accountable.

How? Please explain, exactly how the government can hold someone who wrote a letter accountable for someone else’s actions? What do they do? What section of the law do they use and what is the “accountability”?

I am not admitting to any thing. Based on my personal experience I feel my letter of invitation played a role in getting my parents Visas. Its upto the poster whether he writes a letter of invitation or not. You and other poster can have their opinion and Ill have mine.

Before I was like most who thought support letter was a waste of time, but in some cases it can be a difference maker
