Quick question:

Does the personal check have to be in the petitioners name?! My mom was going to write out the check for me since I don’t have a check book but I don’t know if this is allowed? I can not see anywhere that it is isn’t but I was wondering is anyone had any issues with this?

Does the I-129f application allow money orders in the amount of $535.00? I tried at my local supermarket but they only give money orders out up to $500.

I went to uscis.gov and reviewed the instructions. It doesn't say a whole lot about how to fill out a money order.

many thanks!!!!!

check if your bank can issue a counter check which is essentially a blank check for your account...mine does at least. The nice part about using a personal check is that you are able to see when you account is debited!

If you want to write a check, go to your bank and ask for a check book. Good Lord!
Yes Mom can write the check, but do this without her.

If you have a checking account you should see if your bank can send you a cashier check or go to a branch and get one in person.

My mom wrote the check for our I-129F because I lacked a check book at the time. Dunno what's inciting this reaction, lol.

I don't think uscis cares about it as long as money is paid without a problem.

On a side note, It is really easy to order check book online through your bank, and it is delivered to your door in a week. Or you can order check book online even from Walmart. I think you should consider handling these payments by yourself since there will be couple of more payments with uscis later on considering you are now filing i-129f. Just my two cents;)

First thought that came to mind was here’s a chap that wants to marry, but has to go Mummy to write a check for him. Sorry, I’m an old bloke (and old school) and I think the chap should tackle the task like a man and work it out on his own. Just an opinion we don’t have to agree on. I understand.

I've worked in banking for 10 years. You may be surprised on how many younger (not that I'm "old" in any sense of the word) people have never written a check in their lives; especially as there are more and more places that do not accept personal checks. Thus there has never been a need for a checkbook for them. I still have one I and I write one maybe once a year and that's only because there isn't a way to pay electronically....yet! As banking continues to go electronic the writing of checks will be even rarer to see or do in my opinion.

Point being as long as the funds are available, whether a cashier's check, money order, or personal check from Mickey Mouse, USCIS will happily collect the fees.

I completely understand that and only pay the yard guy by check. Even the maids started taking Zelle. And there’s the occasional self-employed blokes who repair sprinkler systems or deliver a load of mulch. We love restaurants that do online orders for curbside pickup and use Apple Pay.  We choose Whataburger over Jack and McD for that convenience.

I did the money order through western union in January.  I ended up splitting $500 and $35.  A case was created for me in March.  The USPS way works also if you only want 1 money order.

Zombie reply removed; old thread locked.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
