A majority of people believe Black Lives Matter, the anti-racism movement that spread across the UK this summer, has increased racial tension, according to a poll.

Just over half (55%) of UK adults believe the BLM protests that took place in big cities but also in the Shetland Islands and the Isle of Wight, increased racial tensions, according to a survey of more than 2,000 people by pollsters Opinium. Only 17% of the people polled in October disagreed. The polling also showed 44% of ethnic minorities felt BLM increased racial tensions.

Not UK related, but last month I was talking with a friend that used to live in Louisville KY, where I went to school many years ago.  As you may remember they had some unrest earlier this year following minor charges being passed down for the the shooting of a black girl by police following a (perhaps) no knock warrant.  

 

He told me that 20 some blocks of downtown Louisville were affected and that much of it was still boarded up.  A relative of his has a business in downtown and received a written demand from BLM saying they wanted $5000 up front, some $ (dont remember how much) monthly, and that 25% of the employees would be black.  If he could not meet these demands then BLM couldn't guarantee the safety of his business.

 

Someone else that owns a restaurant or cafe was told a similar story except if the demands were not met,  a food truck would be parked in front of the restaurant selling the same food at half the price.

i have no reason to believe those people were part of BLM.
