Governments have actually passed several laws restricting smoking and statistically,  it has saved many lives. The number of smokers and exposure to second hand smoke has never been lower. If you wan't to smoke in your own home or car you can, but not in public places. Very similar concept to wearing a mask actually. Your meme illustrates how poor the rationalization of this subject has become.

That does help. I have heard a lot of people complain about it, but like most addictive behaviors,  you don't see a significant number of people quit because of it. It definitely helps to stop younger people from starting smoking.

Are you suggesting the number of smoking related deaths doesn’t vary directly with the number of people who smoke?

I am simply quoting the number listed by the CDC.  They are saying 1 in 5 deaths per year are caused by or due to smoking.

I'm watching the Chief Medical Officer for Moderna right now on MSNBC. This is all very, very encouraging. Being able to keep it stable at standard fridge temperatures is fantastic.

And wearing a mask, social distancing will not stop one of those tobacco related deaths and the victim is most likely the person who has agency to stop.  Not so with covid-19, it's in the air we commonly breath.

In that equation the other guy dealt it, unless Mr pants guy denied it, in which case he applied it.  We learn the laws of farts at 10 and they carry with us throughout our life.

Except those numbers listed by the CDC include deaths related to secondhand smoke.
