What's really interesting is this : "A spokesman for the House Appropriations Committee, however, said that as of Thursday the Trump administration had still not made a formal request for any emergency funding"

Not interesting when you remember the president would love to put a ban/limit/slow down immigrants... more like makes sense he would be okay with the furloughs as it will slower immigration processing.. all while he is getting what he wants.

USCIS is the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. We are 19,000 government employees and contractors working at more than 200 offices across the world.Jan 28, 2020

so, leaves only 4000 working?    kinda hard to believe as USCIS handles more than just new immigrates/ it handles AOS,  naturalization,  and so many other applications that have fees attached

Yep, 2/3 to 3/4 of the workforce. I'm surprised this isn't a bigger story on VJ.

"USCIS employees, their union and other stakeholders have been pushing Congress to address the funding situation. Knowles warned if the furloughs go into effect, the delays and backlog at USCIS “will balloon.” The number of new asylum cases has more than doubled over the last five years and the current backlog is at all-time highs."

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

True that, I am surprised too.

Btw does this mean that things like GC processing etc get affected too?

Everything would be affected.

Not feeling particularly optimistic about their chances of getting funding. :(

Doesn't USCIS handle sending out the physical green card to peoples houses after the intending immigrant enters the USA? If so does this mean the wait times for their physical green card to be delivered just like tripled in waiting times?

Does USCIS also sends them their SSN with Security cards with the social security office? Or does USCIS not handle SSN and Social security cards? How does that work if I may ask?

I would expect delays relating to GC's being produced.

USCIS has nothing to do with SSN cards. Those are issued directly by the SSA.
