"In plain English: Children who are adopted by U.S. service members abroad, and children who are born to service members while overseas who are not yet citizens (such as service members who are green card holders) will not receive automatic citizenship by merely living with their parents who are out of the U.S on orders."

I don't see this new policy as affecting very many people per year........but it is, imo, a precursor to something much, much bigger (birthright citizenship)

What about if a service member has a child in, e.g. Korea, and they are given orders to return to the US. Hmmm.

This will indeed affect relatively few people.  The release should have been accompanied by a very clear executive summary to dispel fears and provide appropriate perspective.

Just because it might affect only a few people doesn't make it right.

My wife is a US Citizen and she has been living in India for a year now. Our kid will be a US Citizen right?

Since my wife meets the residency requirements for INA 301 the child would be a citizen at birth.

So what really changed other than removing the option to file Form N600 and now only form N600K will be accepted?

I think poor initial wording triggered a lot of over reaction........officials now say about 25 children per year will be affected.  This is a pretty good article which explains it pretty clearly.
