My apologies, I did not notice the inconsistency in the OP.

Is this better?

Anyone who doesn't understand the point of this thread chooses to be blind, period.

So 59 shot isn't a thing? I was talking about this with my new neighbor yesterday because she is from Chicago. She was talking about coming down here hating guns because of all the stuff in Chicago. Then coming down South and now loving guns but hating Chicago.

This has to be fake news.  It is illegal in Chicago to have a gun.

It's real news.... We read these statistics every Monday morning. Most of these shootings are gang members shooting other gangs members. They just don't seem to care about this, because they are mostly in an isolated areas.... Gang areas..... Obama "The Great" did nothing for these communities and he's from Chicago

Isn’t this kind of like the mainstream media staying mostly quiet regarding the homeless issues in San Francisco and Seattle?

Ummmm, if you think the "mainstream media" is not following homelessness issues in San Francisco, it's probably because you're not looking at mainstream media. It is covered by the local press up here extensively on our news stations and in the Chronicle (and lots of smaller publications too). I'm from the LA area and the LA Times has robust coverage of what is happening down there. These are local issues, so I look to the local press. I am NOT apologizing for how bad things are -- it is bad, and it's not a simple problem of "oh, liberals are bad" -- there are some complicated issues I understand relating to how property is taxed, resistance to building affordable housing, the tech bubble, etc. This is an issue that has been percolating for years, even back when this state was pretty Republican.

7 years ago I made my first trip to California to attend an ADA national dental meeting in San Francisco.   This year, actually next month, the ADA meeting returns to San Francisco.  I might have gone if not for the reports of the homeless and drug addicts on the streets and all the garbage that comes along with them.  Doesn't seem that the current politicians in that area have any real desire to clean up the problem.

It isn't that there isn't any appetite -- again, this is a local and state issue and people really should check out local press to see what is happening. It is a VERY complicated issue from what I have read about. This is decades of Democratic and Republican missteps -- well-meaning and otherwise -- that have landed SF in the position it's in. Fingers can and should be pointed at City Hall and Sacramento, and at other CA towns that dump their homeless in the city. I'm not defending how this has been mismanaged, just saying it's not a left-right issue per se. It's very much tied up in the NIMBYism that can be found on the right and the left in this state. It just happens that over the past decade or so the number of Republicans in the state legislature has dwindled, so it looks like it's an issue from the Democratic party, when it's really become an issue for the Democratic party, due to the smaller size of the Republican party in the legislature.

And really, it is NOT a hellscape. I am there every Friday night through Saturday afternoon, and often other times. I manage to enjoy the city just fine and don't act like we're on lockdown when I get to my fiance's apartment. We go out to eat, go to gigs, etc. There are definitely places I will not go in the city, but I have no reason to go there anyway.

Quick google says last time Repubs won SF was in 1956.

How many of the homeless are locals as opposed to from other areas?  I have read that in Seattle, a lot of the homeless come from other states due to the lax enforcement, handouts, etc.  I am not sure about CA.  As to the mainstream media, in this case we are talking CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, WaPo, NYTimes, etc.  I am sure it gets a lot of play in the CA local media given the problem, but other than FOXNews, and some conservative pundits, not much else nationwide.

According to the local politicians in the article I linked, it is all Trump’s fault.  I guess that is progress.

The Dems don't NEED to do anything about the homeless problem et al. -- they control these cities and states, and there's no need to get more votes by cleaning anything up.
