Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : February 15, 2019
Embassy Review : Our interview was on February 12 and it was a very simple and easy process. I was surprised at how many questions they asked us. It seemed that we were being interviewed by someone new and he had a supervisor standing right behind him watching and observing. They asked all of the basic questions you would expect, but he did question how we communicated if neither one of us speak the same language. We were prepared and I responded that I have learned quite a bit of Portuguese over the past 18 months and we are able to communicate well. When we do have a question, we do use a translator. I could hear them talking when he turned off their microphone, as we were being interviewed through the glass window. He was impressed that I understood the question he asked my fiancé’s daughter in Portuguese and he commented about that to the other officer that it was clear that I understood the question in Portuguese. I would estimate that they asked us approximately 20 questions, but all of them were very basic and I thought the interview was smooth and easy
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
