They're are FATCA agreements that countries share financial information regarding individuals and business alms tax treaties generally prevent double taxation so people don't have to pay in both countries. The idea is both countries and individuals /businesses profit

US is an exception. Double taxation is a must if you work overseas and being a us citizen. That's my understanding

*Interesting tidbit about the U.S. - U.S.S.R. tax treaty: it applies to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The treaty will stay in effect until new treaties are negotiated and ratified with these individual countries.

Of course they do. But if you make too much they can still double tax you.  Granted neither of us is likely to make over 100k per year but the chance is there. 

 

Regardless it's just an example and you'd still have to file a tax return.  Why do you have to file a tax return in a country you don't live in?  It's asinine.

What if someone has a criminal and/or immigration violation on record? Wouldn’t it be safe not to apply until the past matter is resolved?

They can deny for criminal or immigration issues in the past.

It would depend on the exact nature of the issue as to whether it would be an impediment to naturalisation.

It can, under certain circumstances. If, for example, USCIS found that you obtained your green card through fraud or misrepresentation, they can then move to revoke your LPR status.

Depending on the nature of the charge, if it's the applicant's only offense, how long ago the crime occurred, what the maximum sentence of the charge is, what the actual final disposition of the charge is and whether the applicant is still in any open probation by the time the interview occurs (an IO cannot approve naturalization if the applicant is still within their probation period, by USCIS policy)----lots of varying factors as to whether a N400 is denied solely due to criminal history.

I lived overseas and used this form when filing taxes. If you meet one of the 3 residency tests and make under $103,900 no tax owed.

I would highly recommend becoming a US citizen. But it is ultimately a personal choice.

 

1. Protection from deportation (the exception is if you lied or misrepresented yourself on your N400).

2. You can vote.

3..US passport has strong benefits.

4. As far as I know you no longer have to update your address with uscis everytime you move. (if I'm wrong someone please correct me).

5. Some US jobs you can get only with citizenship.

6. If you fall into a bad situation and need financial assistance you will be eligible and won't have to worry about the public charge penalty.

7. Protection from ever-changing immigration laws. We know not what will happen in the future. But if anti immigration laws get passed it could effect LPRs who come up for GC renewel.

8. A fishing license is cheaper for a citizen VS LPR. 😛
