Hey guys!

How is everyone? I am having problem getting social here in the US. I arrived here last Nov 11 and applied for ssn Nov 15. And then I got married Dec 22, 2018.

And after more than a month of patiently waiting, today, January 4th, my husband and I decided to go to SSA office to ask for update since we havent received anything in the mail at all. And I read blogs about how ssa staff doesnt know what they are doing sometimes and I think the one we went to is one of them. 😔

They kept telling me they are having issues on the system and it kept saying “Alien Mismatch”.

they said they've been trying to do it over and over since I applied and contact DHS but they havent gotten anything really.

And then they also said that maybe the reason why is because I am on k1 visa and not allowed to work in the US that’s why SSA cannot issue me a number. (i didnt correct them here since I know I’m not gonna win.) but they said the bottom line is the “Alien Mismatch” they are getting.

I am so confused right now cuz my i-94 is only valid until Feb 2. And we are just starting to file for aos.

anyone has experience about this?

any answer will be appreciated. Thank you!

You should have educated them.......go to another SS office asap.

I had the same problem, but luckily I had an officer that was very educated in the whole alien thing. USCIS had a system change a few months ago what resulted in a lot of problems with identifying people.

SSN office has to file a request to USCIS asking them to confirm your identity. Once they get the green light from USCIS you'll get your SSN. Keep in mind that you can only obtain a SSN as long as your K1 OR your I-94 is valid (for at least another 14-21 days) If that's not the case you'll have to wait for you EAD (or GC if you didn't file for EAD) to obtain one.

Go back to SSA with a copy of the I-94 ... if there is a name mismatch,  also make sure the name is being entered correctly at SSA ... idiots seem to abound there.      If they give you guff about issuing the SS card ask for a supervisor.. hopefully that person is up to speed

Hello everyone! Thanks for all your reply. I went to another SSA office, unfortunately, according to the staff there again, it is being "denied". I booked an appointment USICS this Friday and we'll see what's gonna happen. It just sucks because I now only have 33 days to have this fixed.

Anyway, ,my Fiance and I decided to work on my AOS since our lawyer's fee are just insanely high. And I noticed on Form I-765 there was a question if I was given a SS Card and if I want one. Is it okay to choose "Yes" on both even if (let's say) I didn't get SSN on time?

Thanks again!

i cannot find a way to book an appointment with the local office.   Can you please enlighten me?

Our situation:

July 4:  arrived US.

July 15: married, no name change.

July 18:  Applied SS, informed of mismatch and SS opened SAVE inquiry.  Told us the card would arrive in a few weeks.   No marriage info reqd on the SS-5, so not provided.

July 19:  SAVE inquiry returned to SSA.

July 24:   AOS documentation submitted....this would be the first indication to any federal agency that we were married.

Aug 13:   SS called and informed us that they were unable to clear the mismatch and that we need to wait for the green card to reapply for SSC.   The girl was completely guessing that it was maybe because we were married before applying, but that cannot be right because the agency was unaware of the marriage when SAVE responded to SSA.

Aug 16:   Visited a different SSO and reapplied for SSN.  informed there was an Immigration mismatch between the i-94 (Single due to K1 visa) and now since we are married. (makes sense for this application, but not our initial application.)   Informed us that now the EAP is required prior to issuing SSN.   Not sure if correct, but EAP sounds more correct than needing a GC to reapply.

EAD or GC whichever comes first will help resolve the issue.
