USCIS is ~95% funded by the fees they charge for adjudicating applications for immigration benefits, such as green cards and naturalisation.

This means during a shutdown it is largely unaffected with the exception of the e-Verify system, which since it is funded separately by the federal government, is usually unavailable during a shutdown.

AoS and RoC interviews, as well as naturalisation interviews and oath ceremonies all continue to take place, and applications continue to be adjudicated.

Odd of shutdown is low in my opinion.  Stay come and cool.

Actually quite high at the moment.

High enough that hubs has told me people at work have cancelled their vacation.  They will only be backpaid if theyre at work even if they are on use or lose vacation time.

We are thinking it is quite high as well. I am sure as hell not cancelling my vacation on that chance though just in case. I am already on use or lose time so I must use it.

The issue is vacation time wont be paid even if it's use or lose if it's a shut down, you have to be working.  So if it's a choice of paid or not paid, people are choosing to be paid.  (eventually)

Nope,

The Visa Fees pay for their salaries.

Depends on if you are referring to the uscis or the overseas visa units.

Many embassies can continue to operate the visa units for a period of time because of the Visa fees, but once the slush fund runs out they will be affected.

The uscis will continue processing because of the petition fees

YMMV

From what I read USCIS process does not stop after the government shut down tonight, BUT what about the National Visa Center (Dept of State)? Any visa processing being sent there by the USCIS to NVC be affected?

in other words my case with the NVC will it be affected? Delayed?

I just spoke with the NVC related to our K1 and in the conversation the agent shared that they were told today that the shutdown would not impact any processing at the NVC or embassies outside of the expected holidays for Christmas and New Year's.
