Thank you! Yes, I am K-1. We originally filed in November, but our application was rejected because we put the wrong date on the check. We filed again on December 17th and got our NOA1 on January 9th. Our local office is Boston.

Received this letter in the mail today.

I arrived in the States on 11/02/18

I applied for a SSN on 11/15/18

Went back to the SSA twice on 12/20/18 and 01/07/19. Both times they told me that my application was still pending.

SAVE chase status said that my case was back at my local office long time ago.

My I-94 expired on 01/30/19.

Gosh I am so over this, what shall I do?

Try to fight it?

There is nothing you can do. They intentionally postponed issuing it to you themselves. I'm in the same boat. You'll just have to wait until your immigration status changes with the EAD approval.

So why would they intentionally postponed issuing it? :(

In my case, it sat on someone's desk during the Christmas break. They refused to go look for it and give it to an officer who was not on vacation saying it will get worked on when she gets back from vacation. It never did.

I can’t believe that!! So stupid.. Why can’t these people be more efficiënt.. So now you are waiting for your EAD to come in so you can apply for a SSN again?

I applied on my I765 so I should just receive it in the mail after my Combo Card is issued. I'd rather not have to go back to SSA at all until my GC is issued.

I'm finding this wait for the EAD very difficult! My receipt date was December 13 and my biometrics appointment in Detroit was January 7. I haven't heard anything since then and I know that the wait can be as long as 7 months. What is everyone doing to help pass the time?

I believe I read this somewhere here, but can no longer find it.

Assuming I now have to change my W-4 since I was "single." My husband still isn't working, nor does he have his SSN yet. Do I have to change my status on my w-4 to married? or married, but filing separately. He doesn't work and if he does, it probably won't be until some time in June (if lucky!) SO, I highly doubt he will even file anything this year.

Should I just put married? and filing jointly?

Married status on W4.

Married filing jointly usually bears more financial benefits.

W-4 can be whatever you want it to be
That only tells the government/your employer how much tax to withhold upfront. Has no bearing on your actual tax status
Some people keep it at single, some change it to married.
IF you're married and you keep it at single, clearly you will get a big tax refund.

For taxes, you HAVE to file married if you're married.
Jointly or separately is up to the couple and their financial situation although K1VisaHopeful has clearly laid out that it could be more beneficial to file jointly.

I agree but for the not so obvious reason that when you update your status on your W4, it will state "married" on your paystubs. And that way will look good in an AOS interview to appear as "married" everywhere possible if providing paystubs to prove current income with the I864.
